My Recomendations:

Skyclad- the original folk metal band, and still the best, lost a bit of steam when they lost martin walkyier as the vocalist. folkemon, prince of the poverty line, or jonahs ark are my favorite albums. www.myspace.com/officialskyclad

Kurixis- A great local band, broke up before they reached their full potential, blackened death mostly, but very unique. must hear. www.myspace.com/kurixis

Elend- symphonic ambient stuff, can get very creepy at times, unfortunately can find the link right now.

and for bands everybody should allready be familiar with i highly suggest listening to more Type o negative, Borknagar, Enlslaved, Elvenking, and Devin Townsend.

I do enjoy all their albums, though The Crusher and Once Sent.. are my favourites. I'd probobly say Vs. The World is up there as well, forgot to mention that one.
 
I was listening to these bands today and I thought why not let all the international fans know about some of the good Ontario Metal bands:

Wetwork (who have a release on Krankenhaus records) www.myspace.com/wetwork Tech. Death thrash with a brutal chick vocalist.

Eclipse Eternal www.myspace.com/eclipseeternal Epic Black Metal like Emperor (kinda)

Wolven Ancestry www.myspace.com/wolvenancestry Melodic Epic Black Metal

I'm seeing all these bands live this summer and hopefully Woods of Ypres as well. enjoy.

Three great bands there, I definitely need more Tenhi though, as all I have is the airut:ciwi EP. Anyway, on the topic of folk, I'm fucking dying to get a hold of a CD by one-man group called Vali (http://www.myspace.com/valiband). I'd even be happy with a download but I can't even find that. :(

Disgracefully overlooked band! Although I'd say the self-titled album was their finest. :) Simon Dower had some excellent vocals, although I have no idea what he (or Tim Aldridge) is up to nowadays.

Black metal band from France, an excellent album. One of the members is Neige from Alcest/Amesoeurs although this sounds very different.

Sturmpercht - Geister im Waldgeburg

Austrian/Bavarian alpine-folk, ever so slightly tongue-in-cheek. Great variety on this album.

Not exactly metal nor underground, heh. Australian alterna-pop singer. Went to see her live about a week ago in a small coastal town, had a good time.

Mogwai - Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait

Most of you probably know of this band, but their newest release (a soundtrack to a recent art-doco Zidane flick) is one of their best yet, IMO.

Silencer - Death, Pierce Me

The vocals are absolutely messed up but I love this album. You should see the looks on people's faces when you drive by playing this album with the windows down. :) (Have a listen to the screams from 4:25 onwards in Sterile Nails and Thunderbowels). As much as I also like Shining, these guys make them look positively sensible.

And, whoever mentioned Portal... :worship: :worship: :worship: I can't wait for Outre.
