Recommended doom metal albums?

I'm not sure where you could get your hands on the two first Celestial Season CDs

Solar Lovers at one point used to be readily available, as it was released on Metal Blade. I don't know if one could still order it from them. But it is definitely worth getting. Similar to My Dynig Bride, but with more of a groove-oriented approach to songwriting.

I also have two more albums that I don't remember their names but they are singing in English and are totally blown you off!!!!!!!!!

The Book is mostly in English. It's my favorite Root album. Fantastic vocals - Big Boss sings in a very unique (to the metal world at least) majestic baritone that emanates much power. The song The Mystical Words of teh Wise is a beautiful song that sends chills up my spine whenever I hear it.

That's a great band to check out, I don't remember if they are from Belgium or Chez republic

They are from the Czech Republic.

Come on guys, I'm gradually slipping into doom metal (If Katatonia's last two albums and the latest My Dying Bride count), so what do you suggest as the best doom metal albums for me to run out and purchase?

I have a pretty detailed response to this question that I can email you if you wish, but this is a basic synopsis. I can post an extended version if you want more detail.

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality, Paranoid, Vol. 4, Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, Nightfall, Ancient Dreams, Tales of Creation
Cathedral - Forest of Equilibrium, Soul Sacrifice, The Carnival Bizarre, Endtyme
Solitude Aeturnus - Into the Depths of Sorrow, Beyond the Crimson Horizon, Through the Darkest Hour, Adagio
Trouble - Psalm 9, The Skull, Run to the Light
Saint Vitus - Die Healing, Heavier Than Thou (compilation)
Pentagram - Day of Reckoning
Witchfynde (NWOBHM / doom) - Give 'em Hell, Stagefright, Cloak and Dagger
Witchfinder General - Death Penalty, Friends of Hell
Count Raven - Destruction of the Void
Internal Void - Standing on the Sun
Crowbar - s/t
Godsend - As the Shadows Fall
Anathema - Serenades, Pentecost III, The Silent Enigma, Eternity
Amorphis - Tales from the Thousand Lakes
My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans, The Angel And The Dark River, The Light At The End Of The World
Paradise Lost - Lost Paradise, Gothic, Shades of God
Celestial Season - Solar Lovers
Katatonia - Brave Murder Day, Discouraged Ones, Tonight's Decision
Warhorse - As Heaven Turns to Ash
The Obsessed - The Church Within
Morgion - Among Majestic Ruin, Solinari
Electric Wizard - Let Us Prey, Chrono.naut (split w/ Orange Goblin)
Novembers Doom - The Knowing
Saturnus - Paradise Belongs to You, For the Loveless Lonely Nights, Martyre
Tristitia - The Last Grief, Crucidiction
Paul Chain - Alkahest

These are open to interpretation of course...it's just my own personal recommendation.

I didn't read through the entire thread, so I don't know what has been said and what hasn't, but the best Doom Metal album ever is "The Angel and The Dark" river by My Dying Bride.

"The Fate Of Angels" by Grey Skies Fallen
"Silent Enigma" by Anathema
and "Epilouge" by To/Die/For (their like a fucked up mix of Doom and Techno, but their awesome.)

Ah, doom metal... *happy little sigh*

Anathema - Serenades
My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans
Solstice - New Dark Age
diSEMBOWELMENT - Trancendence Into the Peripheral
Funeral - Tragedies/ Tristesse
Evoken - Quietus
Skepticism - AES
Shape of Despair - Angel of Distress

Just to mention a few personal favourites.

Electric Wizard is super duper slow doom... heavy too... I like it much...

But really, you can't go wrong with Black Sabbath when Ozzy is vocalist... it's pure DOOOOOM...

And Angel Witch is sort of Doomy for a NWOBHM band...

Skepticism - Lead & Aether
Skepticism - Lead & Aether
Skepticism - Lead & Aether
Skepticism - Lead & Aether
Skepticism - Lead & Aether

Umm... did I make myself clear enough? ;)

Other hint: go to http://www.doom-metal.com/ and try the radio. Or browse the bandlist. Or the reviews section.
Too bad the site is down at the moment :/

Electric Wizad is damn cool, but they are NOT super duper slow doom. They are easily classified as mid-paced doom. If you want super duper slow, chech out Khanate.

Khanate is the darkest, scariest doom on the planet. They create an atmosphere much like early 90's Norwegian black metal was going for. Very dark and atmospheric.

St. Vitus, I hate to admit this, but I don't own any Solitude Aeturnus. Could you describe them a little.

BTW, do you like Khanate? They seem right up your alley.

OooH Errr.. Dooom... :Smug:
Most of the essentials have already been named, so I'll tag along with a few of me own favs:
Panthëist - 1000 years.. (check 'em out at mp3.com)
Solstice - Lamentations
Zaraza - Slavic Blasphemy
