well i didnt get in... I didn't think they were actually going to be carding everyone at the door, they never did that at the HOB in aneheim.. my life is now ruined.. i shall never see to bid you farwell performed live... :( :( :( :( :( :(

You know what? Fuck the House of Blues. I couldn't get in either. Fuck age requirements. That was such bull shit. I just sat in the restaurant and kinda watched... fuck. FUCK!!!!!!!

The House of Blues is a piece of shit... they opened the doors at 9... and FUCKING PORCUPINE TREE STARTED PLAYING AT 9!!! I got there on time, but had to wait in a huge ass fuckin line, missing PT's 1st 4 songs. :yell:

My little brother didnt make it into the show. He instead just watched some shitty indie movie at some indie movie theatre. :guh:
Why the hell were they carding people? Last time i went to the HOB i saw Megadeth and they never carded my little bro... fucking cunts. :bah:

I caught PT's last few songs and they were fuckin awesome. Needless to say, Opeth exceeded my expectations and i had a great time. What was even better though, a mosh pit started for Face of Melinda around the 4:40 mark (yay i was wearing sandals) and i had to jump in. When the song stopped, i stopped to catch my breath, and while looking down at the floor, Martin's drum stick fell right into my hand...
*the hell? HEY I GOT THE DRUM STICK! :yow:*

IAN: Yes, thank you.

It was a pretty nice venue otherwise though, and the crowd was actually well behaved for the most part. Except for this large annoying lady behind us that was drunk off her ass and would NOT stop talking, and some rudeness towards PT by some of the less intelligent Opeth fans. It was a nice chill show though I really enjoyed it, i was right behind where that pit opened up against the rail to the seating area...under the air conditioning...ahhhh it was wonderful.

Far as the show goes I thought we were just late but they really didn't open doors until 9? I figured we missed quite a bit of PTs set but that would make it even more. The part I was there for kicked ass though and I got to hear my favorite song (trains) so it's all good.

Opeth though, my god. Damnation is 10x better live and I loved it to begin with. The energy comes through a lot better on the heavier sections as well and of course they did it all flawlessly. It was nice of them to play through the whole album in order as it works as well live as it does on the album. But....Benighted was great, TBYF was amazing, and Face of Melinda was the best song to close on anyone has ever picked. Ever since I got into opeth I wanted to hear those live and god damn they delivered...Soldier of Fortune was a very well done cover itself even though I don't think more than half the crowd had any idea who Deep Purple was.

great show like always!

I share your pain you guys that didn't get in. Im so fucking pissed at house of blues.

Opeth comes to tour at a place near me, I am able to go to that place, I am able to buy a ticket, but I am not able to see the show. Sucks big time.

O and scourge I was also looking forward to see TBYFW live. It was the song I was most looking forward to, seeing as how its my favorite opeth song with the drapery falls a close second.

I say this for the second time.

Damn you house of blues. Damn you to hell.

Oh i also wanted to mention that some necro idiot yelled out "this fuckin sucks" after opeth played windowpane and announced that the evening was to be dedicated to their mellow material. he promptly left the building.

Don't you hate idiots like this? What did he expect? ITS THE DAMNATION TOUR YOU FUCKIN MORON!

EDIT: Ya a lot of the *newer* Opeth fans were acting like a bunch of jackasses when PT was on.

WTF? He must have known it was a mellow show. Why would he buy a ticket just to diss opeth and storm out?

ya he was standing right near the center of the stage and had to make a big scene... mike just brushed it off and acted like it was all good though.

I just realized what big balls Mike must have to do this kind of stuff while having a "death metal" label tagged onto you.

Its best to ignore people like that. Alot more professional, but still it must be hard sometimes, with the chance of some drunk ass dude yelling random things at the stage at every show you do.

Mikael doesnt need big balls to play the mellow stuff live, because Opeth has by far the biggest fanboys of any band ever...tonight proves that statement. i was at the house of blues. Porcupine tree...amazing...i love this band, and the live performance exceeded my expectations, for i had never seen them before. One thing that bothered me about the show...is Opeths fans.

GOD!!!!

Opeths fans = fanboy supremes and moronic death metal junkies. Everybody was yelling annoying and irrelevant crap, and saying things that were really stupid in general. My perfect example...when Mikael was saying that back in stockholm...Opeth were tagged as the scorpions of sweden for writing ballady type songs back in the era of the black/death metal boom....and so the crowd booed like maniacs...then Mikael proceeded to exclaim that he liked the scorpions a lot, so he didnt mind that label...immediately following his statement...the crowd cheered, yelling scorpions...you see? Fanboy supremes. Not to mention the mindless death metal junkies proceeded to start a mosh pit in face of melinda of all songs.....:Smug:

In any case...the bands were great as to be expected....the fans...make an Opeth concert quite the test of patience and will power.

I agree with you on the scorpians part, and the yelling of worthless obscenities... lots of assholes and angsty teens around there. i felt ashamed to be enjoying the same thing that they were... i would be surprised if opeth came back to play another mellow concert at L.A.

but starting a mosh pit is considered mindless? dont be a fool. :p
Thats my only form of exercise... once every few months or so.

I wasnt talking about pleasing their fans... but rather making music that combines two (and more) genres whose fans are often closed-minded. It's rare that you come by a prog rock fan that likes death metal, and visa verca.

Well, here's my somewhat review. I didn't know much about PT before the show but now I got to check out their stuff.
PT was pretty awesome live they kicked serious ass.
To Opeth, well, this is my fault but my expectations were a little high before seeing them for this show.
I realized that this show was not at all excellent or flawless, I mean Damnation is a hell of a record, but somehow it didn't work overall in a live setting of all mellow tracks the only highlights for me were "In My Time of Need" "Closure" and "Face of Melinda."
I'm not sure what I was expecting, I guess I wass expecting the same satisfaction of the Troubadour show in February, that show kicked my ass! I think all mellow doesn't work for Opeth I think they should mix it up the next time.
Anyways it was an ok show overall, the band was on the mark, Mike was very chill and happy :)
I was the guy with the baby blue shirt with black pants, I was in the centre a little bit in the back. The guys on my right when psychotic with "Face of Melinda" I was like WTF :hypno: ?? I was like how can people mosh do this? Anyways yea it was an ok show.
