I'm going there in a week. Like Onder's thread, I might as well hear from any of you who's been to the the Eternal City. I plan on seeing as many of the ruins as possible, and to spend a day at the Vatican. Besides that, it's up in the air. I'll be there for four nights. Thanks.

Also, I plan on walking the entire time, since my hostel is smack dab in the middle of town.

I've been to Rome a few times. I've always preferred Florence to Rome but Rome is still awesome. Try to check out the catacombs if you can; they're neat. The Fontana di Trevi is pretty cool at night.

I don't really see how Italians are awful unless you're talking about guidos or something.

The ones I've met outside of Italy are loud and rude, particularly the men who are always catcalling and shit.

Oh yeah, the men in Italy aren't exactly polite either from what I've observed.

Rome's main export is religion and rape.

Good luck in the land of Jesus fueled fuckwits and rape-orgies.

Haha. A large part of my family lives in Italy. There are extremely wealthy and not really guidoish. They also have an economic hand in many places and undoubtedly contribute to the massive corruption problems there. I also suspect they are still involved in the Mafia.

I envy Z and his trip...

Well, i'm proud to be ITALIAN damn it! Proud of my heritage and long lost relatives..some of who are actually lost and were mysteriously never found:lol:...ba-da-bing!:erk:

of course Italians do make the greatest lovers.

so this has nothing to do with the neo martial industrial music act?

I had a friend who lived and worked in Rome for six months, and it was definitely a love/hate relationship. She got into a vespa accident and wiped out and had to go to the hospital. She had surgery and had to stay in the hospital for five days and have all sorts of tests run. In the end, she didn't have to pay a dime (yay socialist healthcare!). However, her driver's license was confiscated by the Italian police who basically wanted to extort $800 out of her in exchange for her license. That's a really watered down version of the story, but in the end, she came back from Rome with a really unhappy feeling about it and really viewed it as an extremely corrupt state

she also said there are pickpockets and gypsies everywhere

So my roommate's mother, who went to school in Rome, just sent me a detailed description of three walking routes through the city with a map, listing all the places I can get food and stuff to see. This will be immensely helpful.

Can I get a copy? I'll probably be visiting there as well this summer.

Wish I could go with you man, that would be sweet.

I have a friend from school that is attending university in Italy. I don't know the exact name of the university, but it's somewhere in Naples.
