Roundhouse Tapes review

Opeth is black metal!??!:zombie:

Anyway... The review was pretty nice one. Maybe I should get that one.

It certainly is.

"the band surveys their 12-year recording history, including tracks from their debut album, Orchid, and the classic favorite album Still Life."

Sounds like there were songs from those two albums only.

"Oh, and the ultimate highlight of the album is an almost 19-minute long rendition of “Blackwater Park.”"

When actually the "rendition" is identical to the album version with the jam/band introduction on the end of the track.

and many other strange things... oh well.

yup first time I looked at the track times....i was like....awesome a 18 min BWP....and then it turned out ot be band introduction with porno music...hahaha...!!!!....PEAC EOUT

Black Metal masters?! Haha..................................

geeezums. it's not like we're the only ones to label them that :)

Progressive metal? Death metal? Swedish death metal? Progressive Swedish death metal? i will make change it to the more accurate genre, so if someone wants to chime in i'd appreciate it.

hey annt,

he says "including" tracks from their debut album, Orchid, and the classic favorite album Still Life. he phrased that properly.

also, our writer said, "Another thing that is amazing about this live performance is how close to the original versions the live renditions are." i don't get what you're saying here. you're making it seem like it's not a live track, but the same track from the BP album.

anyway, this was a positive review overall, so i'm not sure why people are hating on it so much.

Agreed. Why would anyone who has ever HEARD Opeth call them black metal??? :ill:

And yes, it was a positive review. I just thought the BM thing is weird. Other than that, not a bad review.

so when he says on stage, "This song has some lyrics that are absolute black metal nonsense..." is he just kinda poking fun at himself? i can't imagine him labeling himself that.

also, i usually do some fact checking on allmusic.com and they have "Death Metal/ Black Metal" among a few other genres. so, it seemed ok. sorry about that. I updated the piece and removed "black metal" and replaced with progressive death metal. thank you very much for your input.

I'm not really hating it, I'm sorry if I came across that negative. These few things just bothered me, as they could've been phrased better, that's all.

I believe Mike was just having fun with the audience, TBH. And perhaps taking a stab at his lyrical style "back in the day".

Anyway, it's really no big deal, I just always wonder if the person has actually listened to them when they call them black metal...or if they even know the difference! It's all good bro...

"This song has some lyrics that are absolute black metal nonsense..." shows proof of self distance, something many other similar bands lack
