say something about ... yourself!

Heeheeehee :D

Nah, he wasn't pulling a Kilroy. He's just sitting on it watching me, so I strategically placed a stack of huge boxes between him and my desk.

and now, the real reason why I'm leaving my job, including all the dirty details.

As some of you know from my previous posts here in this thread, this job, which seemed to be a great opportunity and
a 'dream job' for great $$ and great location, benefits and what not turned out to be a 'workoholic environment' where 10 hours a day
considered as a short-work day. Above that, my one and only boss, my art director is impossible to work for. I'm talking about 0 communication skills,
She doesn't know what she wants, she makes up the work as she goes, she tells me to work on something- and when I put 10 hours in; she tells me that's
not what she meant at all, and I have to start all over. Her demands are absurd, and her attitude towards you, her employee, is degrading and offensive.
BUT, I shall not go into too many details about my boss, let us get to the dirty details part of my story.

About 3-4 weeks ago we had a really tough, frustrating week with my boss. Both Tyler, my co-worker, and I were working for 12 hours every single day (no joke)
and she on the other hand, did everything in her power to give us the most negative and un-helping feedback we could get. For two days in a row we worked
for almost 10 hours straight only for her to come by after all this work and trash our work completely and to tell us to start all over again
(needless to say- during those 10 hours of work we were following her instructions... ) .
A little disclaimer: I have NO problem staying late at work when needed: if there is a certain project that is due, or a big dead line: staying late is obvious and justified.
But when you're talking about 12 hours a day, *every day* for no reason other than the fact that my boss can't communicate- you're talking about one frustrated Karen.
Not to mention: during that week I never ONCE took a lunch break: I ate at my desk in 10 minutes and got back to work...
Anyhoo: at the end of that long frustrating week, (where Shrike had no mommy) on a Friday, Tyler and I sitting at our cubes working, the time was 7pm (on a friday!!)
My boss grabs her things and tells us: "ok guys, don't forget to finish your work before you leave" which was completely disgusting of her to say:
a) it was a fucking FRIDAY and we've been busting our ass all week
b) how can she walk out, see us sitting there, ON A FRIDAY and not even telling us: "guys why dont you go home" or... "hey lets finish this on Monday" - anything would do.
Instead she left us there looking at each other.
Mind you, I do not need to 'ask' my boss when to leave, but I was trying to do a good job for her and make her 'happy' and was in the middle of something that was not by all means, urgent.
After she left, Tyler and I started venting and opening up to each other about our boos, the company and the history of employees that were there before me (and why they left)
Since Tyler lives in Arlington as well I suggested I'll take him home. We got to my car and started venting like no tomorrow... it's been such a long frustrating week for both of us
with no recognition, no good word, we basically ate shit the entire week from my boss, and so we let it all out in the car.
At some point, venting made us feel so much better, that Tyler (a proud gay man) said: "..and her husband is SO GAY! did you see him? he's obviously a closeted gay because they are so religious"
We started laughing about it so hard, because my boss's husband comes to work every day and picks her up so we see him a lot, and yes, he is VERY GAY. (and very religious, but for fuck's sake: you should see this man..)
So almost the entire ride home we vented, we laughed, we blew up steam, we just needed to share my stupid boss's experiment with one another.
Half way through the ride home (I live 40 minutes from work ) Tyler freaks out............ In fact he freaked out so much I thought he's having a heart attack.
Apparently.... his phone dialed her number by mistake, and she fucking heard the entire conversation... she stayed on the line for 20 minutes and heard EVERYTHING we said about her.
Yes, including the fact that we think her husband is gay.
This is a true story... I swear... It sounds like it was taken from a movie but this really happened...
I wanted to die, we both did... holy fuck what an akward Monday morning that is going to be.. My entire weekend to follow was a nightmare... I didn't want to talk about it because I felt so weird about it...
Just so you know, I hardly mind that my boss heard me talk about her as my boss, because it may help her understand what a shitty human being she is, and plus, employees always vent about their bosses... natural and understanding.
But I absolutely felt horrible that we had to go 'personal' and insult her and her husband... eek double eek. (and I'm sparing you the whole conversation we had about it... it was long and we totally made fun of them... :/ )

So Monday morning comes, dreadfully I walk into the office.. My boss gets to work and takes both of us to the conference room, she gives us a lecture and basically said she couldn't believe her ears
and what a horrible conversation we had... yada yada... we ended the meeting with both Tyler and I apologizing and talking to her about what can we do to improve our work relationship... We talked about what she does wrong,
what we do wrong, the meeting was OK.
But ever since then...... ever since this phone-call - My boss is 100% vindictive and worst than what she was before. She treats both of us like SHIT, and lies to our faces, humiliates us, and talks to us like we're children.
I am not going to bore you with the details, but trust me when I say: I have never been treated like this at a work place, EVER.
Seriously, take my word for it.

Some of you may say: "oh well, she heard you guys talking shit about her so she has a right to treat you like this" well, NO. YOU ARE WRONG.
The phone call that she over heard took place outside of the work place, it was dialed to her by mistake, meaning it was a private conversation she wasn't invited to. She needed to hang u pthe phone, really.
But, again, who would? At the same time: she can not hold this conversation against us, unless of course you're a childish, manipulative, vindictive woman that is married to a closeted gay man.

3 days ago, Tyler decided to go to our team manager (who is not our boss, he just oversees this huge project we are working on) and tell him everything. He decided to spill his guts to him about our boss
and about how horrible she is. He talked only about himself, and since he worked there a lot longer than I am, he thought it would be a good idea.
(My boss's 'boss' is the CEO of the company, but he is NEVER there since we are opening another office in NYC... anyhoo)
He talked to the team manager, yada yada....

This morning, he was fired.

So you see, I will never 'leave' a job for minor details. I often do not like to talk about my 'personal' life on here, but let me tell you, it felt great to let it all out.
I can't fucking believe they fired him today :(

I hate this place. No money in the world is worth this.
I haven't left yet, but I am not staying here for long, that's for sure.

The heater was fixed today... it jumped from 55 to 78 in this room. I need to adjust the temperature setting back to 68... O_O

Holy crap that sucks ass, Karen. Can you get your old job back? You seemed so happy there...

Wow, Karen...that's no good. That's one boss you won't be able to use as a reference on your resume :erk:

Hey everyone, remember to lock your cell phones when not in use! :p

lots of work shit
<3

Who would want to work for a boss they can't make fun of anyways?!

But yeah srsly that place sounds ridiculous. No amount of money or experience is worth that kind of brain damage.

Now it's going to be hard for me to get frustrated at work lol.

I already have great references so I don't need her as one, thank the gods.

Thanks guys <3

(kevin an extra <3 for you.. really! and you still need to tell me about your job as well)

As for my old job.... the economy has gotten to it, and my old boss told me she is dying to have me back, but they
just can't afford what I'm asking for... They actually just had to let one of the young designers there go :/
She is giving me 'contract work' in the mean time though.

I haven't left yet, but I am not staying here for long, that's for sure.

Holy shit, well  That is a good reason to leave. That is kind of fucked though, how did he 'accidentally' dial her number? Seems very strange. But whatever, if she's going to extremes to make your work environment shitty, you can just quit I guess, or play smart and try to use her anger against her, get her to do something stupid/illegal and file a lawsuit. In Canada when that kind of thing goes on it's called a poisoned work environment, you have to prove your case ofcourse but as long as it meets the prima facie then you can get it on the books while you gather evidence. Not sure how the US laws work though, it varies so much from state to state. If you just want to walk away with your hands clean that's fine too, but personally I would have manned up and apologized to my boss, but also have explained how I felt I was being treated, and while it was no excuse to speak that way, we had a lot of emotions wrapped up in our work and felt you weren't being a supportive employer. You said it yourself you don't mind to work late, but rather it was her attitude that made you so frustrated, so maybe having tried to explain that to her it might have worked out. You know, communication is a big part of any relationship, business or otherwise. If she doesn't want to hear any of it, then that's fine but at least try. If you're going to quit anyways, thing might turn around in your favour if you work out some kind of amicable agreement. I know it didn't work for Tyler, but then again is sounds like A) he was doing most fo the talking and saying the personal shit B) He's worked there longer and therefore is held to a higher standard C) There may have been other factors as to why he was fired. Who knows.

That being said, some people are just spiteful fucks who are given little power and use it to abuse everyone they can because they themselves are horrible fucking human beings so if she doesn't care to hear it and just continues with her vendetta then fuck it. That is still pretty fucked though that he dialed her number and she heard  AWWWWWWWWWWWKWARD!

She is on the playing field of a lawsuit, she just needs to play her cards right and get some evidence, maybe meet with a lawyer and see what would help her case. Regardless of what she did, they can't act the way they ware. Either she fucked up enough to get fired, or reprimanded but it can't be like a 'you fucked up and now I'm going to make everyday of your life here hell' type of situation. They need to decide.
