say something about ... yourself!

It's fucking sad man. It's sad that in such an advanced country such as the US people do not have insurance so they are left to rot with no help.
Wonderful isn't it ? Only in America, folks.
Well, the reverse is true here in Belgium. People can stay unemployed (especially in the French-speaking part, where the Socialist Party still swings the club), and earn only €50 less than they would if they worked, while the legal pension age is probably going to be hiked up a few years to pay for all the leeches. Yeah, now stuff like that doesn't exactly make a nice case for the socialist conviction.

I honestly have no idea how health care in other countries work but I think ours needs a serious overhaul + lighter restrictions on drugs. Yesterday I went to get my prescription ADD medication filled (which happens to be schedule 2 because of the amphetamines) and my doctor wrote one thing slightly wrong and they wouldn't let him call in about it, fax a new one, nothing. I had to go all the way back to his office that day when I was super busy and had already been there (40 minutes each way) to get a new prescription. not only that, then when i went to fill it supposedly my insurance company needed authorization FOR THE SECOND FUCKING TIME WITH THIS MEDICINE and i couldn't even get it that day and I didn't have my medication for this morning.

Whatever other countries have I'll take it, anything can be better than this insanely shitty system we have (and then in the future please get rid of the restrictions that are so tight on these medications; obviously i don't expect them to hand out insane shit but if a doctor faxes a new prescription and calls in that should be enough; depriving people who actually need the medicine because some tweakers out there want to get high is pretty ridiculous).

John, from what you're saying it sounds as though the tooth is erupted (out of the gums, not impacted). Therefore, the extraction should be pretty simple, as in they won't have to cut into your gums and dig around, they can just yank it right out. Simple extractions don't cost a whole lot...maybe $100-$150. It couldn't hurt to call some dental offices and ask what they charge. Are you working again yet? If so, surely you could save up that much. It'd be a lot cheaper than pulling it out yourself and getting an infection.

As Karen said you can go to a dental college and get the work done at a discount. I don't know about in Houston, but in Dallas, SO many people go that route that you have to get on a waiting list for at least three months, and then after that it's still not guaranteed the college will need you.

A pure socialist society in general, is not always all fun and games either, but socializing healthcare? Hell yeah it is better.
If John lived elsewhere he would have just walk in, get his teeth fixed and be done with it with a VERY small to sometimes no fee at all.
It's sad, I'm sorry, truly sad that someone who is a citizen of a certain advanced country, can not get the health care he needs :/

Enemy: yeah.. I hear ya... although... I would assume the same thing would happen in other places too, depends on your medication.
They don't take chances...

Absolutely, I don't deny that. It's just that a more socialist viewpoint tends to get a bad rap because of all the abuse that can be taken of it. If the socialist politicians of the world would stop and figure out ways of not making the system so easily abused, then a lot more people would be inclined to support socialization of certain sectors.

Wow, that first dentist charges $485 for a simple extraction! Weird, that's the only doctor in Houston that it lists (with a price) for extractions. There have got to be dentists in Houston that charge less than that, though.

If you search the same thing for Dallas, extractions start at $80. Houston shouldn't be any different.

You can, but for some reason that one dentist is the only one that website will even show a price for, in Houston. There's a list of a bunch of other dentists in the area but they don't display their prices.

Wait till you see what they charge you to put a fake tooth in to replace it.
Yeah, well, that's expensive over here too. But that's kinda understandable, since the procudre is more complex and it requires a replacement tooth and all. Pulling a tooth is just some dentist that grabs your tooth with a pair of pliers, puts his foot next to your head and pulls 'til he goes purple.

Extracting a wisdom tooth is often a lot more complex than other teeth due to the number of roots and weird hook shapes that those teeth can have under the jawbone. There is also a risk of damage to the facial nerves that run through the jaw if done using caveman methods.

True, true, for wisdom teeth, it's different. But most teeth are still pulled the old-fashioned way over here.
