nah, you can do double majors, for instance, but it takes planning. if you are in a liberal arts curriculum, you have to take some basic courses in different fields, for instance, I had to take two or three math/science courses, two semesters of english, two semesters of foreign language (I signed up for ancient greek, proof positive I was smoking dope back then), etc. then, in the fields you are majoring in, you have to take courses in progressive levels of difficulty, example, I had to take a certain number of poli sci 400 level classes, several 500, one or two 600s, and one 700 level, which for me was International Law.
I also took enough history to consider that a minor, if I had stuck around for another semester, I could have taken a few more histories and then I would have had a dual major of polisci and history.
you have time to dick around your freshman year and start taking the basic courses that you'll probably have to take anyway, before you decide on a firm major and begin to plot out how you'll take the higher level courses, because they are more specialized, there is less of a demand for them, and they might only be offered once a semester. This probably also depends on how big the college is as well.
