Should I listen to power metal?

I'm a fan of power metal, and I'd have to suggest that you listen to Iced Earth at least.

other ones you could try are:
Blind Guardian
Demons & Wizards
Firewind
Stratovarius

I guess that answers my question. Blind Guardian sucks, Demons and Wizards suck, Iced Earth suck, never listened to Firewind, and Stratovarius is OK. If that's the best that power metal has to offer, then I'm not missing a thing.

Symphony X is OK, though they are more prog than power.
I don't listen to new power metal, rather, if I listen to something like that it's old, classic heavy metal bands - those new power metal groups play exatly the same but worse.

Elvenking - Heathenreel
Newest Galloglass
Dungeon - Rise to Power
Stormwarrior - all
Try Lost Horizon

How the fuck do you hate BG but like something like Stratovarius? Honestly...

A couple that I like are:

Hammerfall (I've listened t oall of their "Renegade" album, and liked it), and

Cain's Alibi (I've only listened to one of their songs and they don't apear to exist any more)

Before you decide a sub-genre is bad, at least try to listen to a selection of what it has to offer.

I get strangely aroused by the sound of Dragonforce. I don't care too much for the more "modern" power metal, but I do like some "true" metal that stays more closely rooted in the late 70's / early 80's denim-und-leather philosophy.

There's something about the modern power metal stuff that seems to miss the point. The original PM bands didn't play their stuff with one tongue in their cheek (at least in the beginning). Man, I really dislike irony in music.

Sooo, you might like something like Hammerfall's 'Destined for Glory' or 'Renegade', but don't like things like... ahh, I need more power :waah:.

Q:Should I listen to power metal?
A:If you are an old narrow-minded prick that can´t stay musical progress, then sure. Power Metal is aready antiquated.

Anyway some bands aren´t so bad
Symphony X
Sonata Arctica
Nevermore

Not a fan of Power Metal. I sometimes listen to Nightwish, and listen to a Sonata Arctica song maybe once a year, other than that, no.

I hate Blind Guardian.

oh jolly good you listen to complete fucking shit and then "hate" one of the only bands associated with the genre nowadays that actually has something to offer

on the first two lp's that is

try "banish from sanctuary" and "majesty" though yeah they are more melodic speed metal
