Should I listen to power metal?

Edguy is a mandatory band, at least everything through Hellfire Club.
Elvenking's Heathenreel, a must listen.
Grave Digger, The Reaper through Rheingold. MANDATORY.
Manticora, everything.
Slough Feg, everything but Atavism.
Winter's Bane - Heart of a Killer.

Atavism isn't as good as the rest, but it still is damn good.

ManOWar kill.

I've been listening to a fair amount of Iron Savior of late, missed them playing at Bloodstock though - anyone here see them?

No, power metal is gay

Personally, I'm not of the opinion that Cain's Alibi's War Gods (I'm fairly deifinate that it is power) is:

cheery: bright and pleasant; promoting a feeling of cheer; "a cheery hello"; "a gay sunny room"; "a sunny smile"

Unless you think things liike:

you scream to your jealous gods, what have we done

you cry for the fathers child, dying today

and

only your suffering can take the war gods away

are cheery, bright, or pleasant.

:p

EDIT: you can't beat us! We've got more power than you!

All who say "power metal is gay" are clueless beyond belief. Seriously, dont talk about something you don't know (and i almost never use that phrase). Also it is extremely funny that someone with nickname Vital Remains talks about other bands having bad vocals, dude you appreciate/listen to GROWLS, so your opinion about who has or has not good/bad vocals is wrong by default.

On topic: Yes you should. Buy some Helstar, some early Fates warning/early Queensryche, some Liege Lord (especially "Master Control"), any Vicious Rumors album with Carl Albert, "Ample Destruction" from Jag Panzer, Oracle (if you dig technical stuff), Metal Church (first 3).. and listen to some serious riff power.

I have not seen Persuader mentioned, I suggest checking them out immediatly. Go for material off their second album "Evolution Purgatory" first, very cool riffs, melodies, vocals, etc. They have far more of a right to claim "Extreme Power Metal" then a band like Dragonforce.

Yeah, I was pretty much just saying "more extreme then Dragonforce", I think extreme Power Metal (when extreme refers to Black or Death Metal) is sort of an oxymoron, but Persuader has some pretty good screams and some growls.

I get strangely aroused by the sound of Dragonforce.

I'll throw in a good word for this band too. I like a lot of power metal, but DragonForce is a band I've discovered only recently, and their music kicks some serious ass. My favorite track I've heard so far is "Through The Fire And Flames" off their new CD Inhuman Rampage. It's blisteringly fast, heavily melodic, and has incredible solos. I believe they have it playing on their official site (www.dragonforce.com).
