Skepticism

The funny thing about doom metal is that it has so many subgenres. A person could really like CANDLEMASS or CATHEDRAL but not be able to sit through listening to ANATHEMA or UNHOLY. It's all a matter of what your personal taste is. Me, I like it all....except for 'stoner rock' which isn't even doom metal in the first place! People just mistake it as such.

@redblueyes....check out the newest SHAPE OF DESPAIR - Angels of Distress...you might like it...Pasi Koskinen is on vocals...MORGION (either one) is a good recommendation as well....you may also enjoy NOVEMBER'S DOOM...

And CELESTIAL SEASON are awesome....I only have Solar Lovers and Forever Scarlet Passion...how do the others compare to them?

Well I only have those 2 as well so I shouldn't go around saying how much I like em huh! :D Actually off the top of my head I was thinking Forever Scarlet was another band (Theater of Tragedy?) shows how "together" I am huh! :p
But at the time Solar Lovers came out I was really into them! It was my own personal first-experience hearing deathgrowls and woman voice at the same time (not like Anathema with the 2 girly tracks on Serenades, which I love), but together. One of the (maybe THE) first violin-"metal" bands too. I don't even consider Anathema doom metal (or Katatonia for that matter) but I guess Anathema was in the beginning (ps-I love Anathema then but even more the last few cds).

When are they gonna come out with some catchy DOOM?

I think all genres of metal have just as many sub genres as doom. Hang on, I'll work it out at home & try to figure out viable subgenres to every subgenre.
