Slate Drums Terry Date Expansion

Made a little comparison clip with both expansion packs for anyone who's interested, i like them both very much, but indeed very very different from each other.

I was fiddling around with my Roland TD6V e-kit triggering SSD4, basicly just freewheeling around and making it up as i went along, so it's not the tightest performance.

Chris Lord-Alge

Terry Date

Both tracks are completely raw except for a limiter on the master buss. No compression/reverb/EQ whatsoever (so they sound even better when mixed properly)

Color me interested. I have never been a fan of the CLA hyped drum sound, and these clips confirm that, but GOD DAMN those TD drums sound awesome :Smokin:

Bit of a different angle here but I would LOVE a pack that was Nicko Mcbrains kit. Don't think I've heard a virtual instrument that's got the same sound as his kit!

Hey guys! Could some one post a screen shot of a mixer window of TD expansion? I d like to see what options are there to control different mics etc. I lack the snare bottom mic a lot on all the clips posted. Is it there? The crack is good but it lacks a ring and sustain, which you can easily blend in using some other samples but anyway...

It's there. There are two kick channels for the one kick and a mic for each the top and bottom of the snare.

only problem with that is I would only care about the old drum sound and Martin Birch has been retired for over 20 years ... still, I couldn't agree with you more being a huge fan of Mcbrain's drum sound. Just not Kevin Shirley's take on it

The TD expansion sounds killer but was wondering a few things as I have TD-30 vdrums....the CLA expansion I read from the manual says theres snare rimshot that actually has a seperate midi note instead of by velocity on head only and theres tom rim clicks too...does the TD have these features as well? I love SSD4, but im more concerned with v drum playability with actual rimshots and articulations.

Hey dude, I'm running both sets of samples through a Roland TD-12. My kit defaults to a rim sound when I hit the rim on my snare. The toms have some random samples triggered on the tom rims but they are totally customizable. You can assign whatever sound you like to the rim toms, or even the snare rim if you'd like. Hope that helps!

Um damn I'm a Superior user but Terry Date is my favorite engineer of all time. I'm not familiar with Slate drums, can someone tell me what I need to buy to get this expansion?

Hi!

Just finished my first "true" mix with a TD kit.
A friend of mine played the drums.
I didn't want it to sound too modern and wasn't sure the TD would fit but I think it's not that bad...

For Entombed's Clandestine (and many sunlight studios albums) you'll need an old drum machine for kick, snare and toms, may be an alesis d4, and real or vsti cymbals.

Interesting, thanks!

I didn't try to sound exactly the same btw, it was just a tribute, I did it my way. :worship:
