Slate Drums Terry Date Expansion

You guys are free to not buy them.

Not to kiss Slate's butt hole but these are great and worth every penny.

I'm 100% convinced they are worth it. Just struck me as kind of odd that you have to buy practically the same thing two times.

Hi!

Since I found this thread today...
Not sure it would be of any interest for you but since I bought the CLA & TD expansions last week end, and was doing some new setting tests with my Torpedo Live, I used a CLA and a TD preset on the "almost" same guitar tracks.

I'm not a professional sound guy so be indulgent if it sounds too horrible. :loco:
Track is divided in 4 parts of let's say 4 different Metal riffing styles.

CLA:

Terry Date:

Since I used it first I did a few changes on Kick and Tom settings + brutal bus compression.

Then I tested a TD preset. It sounded much more mix ready for Metal, so I tested an export with preset untouched but kick was way too loud. So I did a second export with -6dB on the kick.

Except drums, the only difference between the 2 versions are the guitar tracks: 4 tracks with CLA, 2 tracks with TD.

For my ears Im liking the cla much better

+1, CLA kills the TD expansion in this, and in the other clips posted IMO.

TD kicks sound plasticy and the snares sound tiny, only place where I might be preferring the TD expansion is the toms, as they're tighter and less boomy. Maybe with some processing, these might be more useful, but right off the bat, the CLA expansion sounds gigantic compared to these :erk:

The CLA and Terry are so different, just like CLA and Terry's mixes sound completely different. This is the TERRY in action and it sounds f-cking killer:

CLA: Large, splatty, fat.
Terry: Tight, cracky as hell, bright and aggressive.

Cheers,
Steven

Hmm... Definitely does sound better than most other demos I've heard of it, still not completely convinced it's that much different than what I already have, though. These remind me of the clean and precise sound I associate with my Superior samples, with the crack of some of your stock samples in the Platinum edition of SSD. CLA is unique, as it's really the only set of drums I own that sounds totally huge without even doing any processing to them. I can definitely tell that I like these better than the stock sounds in Superior, though...

I'll have to take a listen when I get home and see if I'm hearing anything different through a proper monitoring setup :headbang:

I'd hope that any Terry Date Drums user would agree with me that everything about that pack is very different from what the drums in Superior. The snare sounds, kicks, rooms... it's way different. Not a diss on Superior mind you.. just stating fact that there is no overlap in those two libraries at all.

I think the Terry Pack includes some of the best sounding drum samples I've ever used. I really love them and have been working on new music with them.

Cheers,
Steven

I wanted to get this at first sight, but after hearing a few samples my GAS is kind of cured. Not that it sounds bad, not just my type of sound, although I wonder what I would have been able to do with some of these snares... >: Not interested in the kicks though. Put together just a pack of the snares and I'll buy it with no hesitation, haha.

That would be a letdown, however could be possible if different teams were developing them - there is a clear quality difference in the UI skins so who knows what other shortcuts were made...

Is the humanization algo in SSD the same as in Trigger? I feel like the stuff I've heard/done through SSD4 sounds way more fake and robotic than Trigger, even when triggering from MIDI.

At first, I really didn't like the TD stuff...but the more I listen to it, the more BROAD potential I hear. I get the feeling many people here have never recorded real drums like this and don't see how well these were recorded. My Nashville Series samples were recorded similarly and you guys LOVE them, the only difference is processing and room and layers. These are more real, and I dig that. I might just get em. I'm doing live stream mixing now and need a more real, live drum sound anyway.

I've never been a fan of the deftone drumtones, so most of the snares especially weren't my cup of tea.
Still there are some great ones in there, and they sound so different from anything I have that that alone should be worth the buy.
Could venture into some new tone-areas with those haha
