Slate Drums Terry Date Expansion

How many velocity layers does this pack have Steven? They sound great, but a *little* machine gunny from the demos, wondering if that's more the programming than the layer count though. Anyone else think that or am I just crazy?

Yeah I wish the product spec gave more details. Velocity layers, round robins, download file size, installed file size, etc...

Same goes for the CLA too, which I'm also considering.

They sound really really good right out of the box! Some minor EQ on the snares to get rid of the ringing sound and you're good to go! If you don't wanna go overboard ;)

From my notes, we have about 20 velocities and 20 hits per velocity... that's 400 samples per drum. If you push the dynamics up and program accordingly, you can make it sound very dynamic and I've done that using Kit 1 on a new track I'm working on. I'm still blown away but the sounds I'm getting with this pack.. I used to do a lot of heavy music back in the late 90's and early 2000's but have since being doing a lot of pop. These kits have really inspired me back into the heavy stuff. I just fired up the Triple Rectifier which has been in storage for seven years! Still sounds good.

Cheers,
Steven

Most presets seem to be on par with the CLA presets loading up almost 2 gigs of samples per preset. That's whole lotta samples!

I think I've fallen in love with Kit 1. I'm guessing this kit was not meant as a metal kit per say (more rock?), but I find the other kits geared for metal a bit too over the top for me. My music isn't all that "metal" anyway. More prog/metal. Kit 1 is just working great for me. I'm loving it!

Yeah Kit 1 is definitely more "rock" based.. mostly due to the kick being not too clicky. You can use that kit and swap some snares around and still keep it pretty rock too.

Cheers,
Steven

Expansion is awesome! Instant punch and that "expensive" sound :headbang:
But the only problem I have is with that License system...I lost the second License from my account somehow. Fortunately there are 2 of them :) I contacted the support still waiting for the answer.

EDIT: The problem is solved!

Now there's no doubt that Slate support is one of the best out there!!! Thumbs up for Mr.Kevin!

Oh no! That snare is what makes it! That snare is just about as perfect gets for me. Little to no nasty ring, a ton of pop and resonance, it cuts through the mix very nicely yet it doesn't have a ton of high frequencies making it harsh.

I also really enjoy the snare in preset five. It has a lot of variation and sounds very natural for samples.

Steven... :worship: This expansion is FANTASTIC!!!

Still debating whether I want to buy these or not... They sound good, but I'm not convinced I'd use them over the CLA expansion. CLA just sounds so huge in my mixes, these ones don't really grab me...

Anyone have a sample mix or two with these (or better yet, a mix using CLA and the same mix with the TD expansion)? I have so many drum samples as is that rarely get used... Need to make sure that the $150 I'd drop on the SSD & Trigger expansion will actually be put to use...

I can help you out.

Here's a little demo I threw together from a sample I made for the FGX demo Steven helped me out with a while ago...

I slapped the SSD Terry Date kit 1 and 5 and the CLA kit 1 for you on these files.

It's obvious in these files to me at least that the first Terry Date kit fits this mix much better than the other two by far. The other kits sound far too over hyped for my tastes, and they would need to be better mixed to fit the arrangement, but hey, I just loaded them up for you to hear how they might sound more in a mix.

just pulled the "trigger" on these. thought they'd work really well on something im mixing at the moment and they dropped in perfectly.

incredibly high standard of samples, great work as ever steve.

BTW, these kicks will cut through anything, tons of nice low end there too. wow.

just wanted to purchase this but then...WTF!?

am i the only one who thinks that the SSD+TRIGGER pack is kind of a ripp-off!?
i understand if you own SSD you buy the SSD pack if you own TRIGGER you buy the TRIGGER pack, that's absolutely ok.

but then again i have paid for both SSD and TRIGGER so, logcally i should get the SSD and TRIGGER stuff for the same
price as the individual packs, why do i have to pay more, i don't get it.
it's the same samples and there is no extra work involved as these packs already exist ;)

I kind of agree with this. As I see it, you are buying the samples and shouldn't really need to pay extra for it to work with another plugin.
