Slayer or Metallica (esp. influence)

I tend to disagree. While the albums released after South of Heaven definitly arent up to scratch with what Slayer had done previously, they still showed strong musicianship and they stuck to their roots. Very little of this 'sellout' crap... and when compared to the scale of Metallica's sellout, I dont think it registers.

And this doesnt count the last 2 albums... they're shit.

That's exactly the reason Metallica are more influential. By going commercial Metallica got a whole new bunch of Metal fans and have influenced other genres of Metal much more than Slayer have.

I prefer Slayer...Divine Intervention was an okay album in my opinion, everything else after that kinda went down the shithole, but yeah. Slayer = better.

I prefer Slayer. And I also think that there were equally as influential as Metallica. They have been around as long as Metallica, and they had a greater influence on extreme metal than Metallica did, whereas Metallica may have had a greater influence on the less heavy Bay Area thrash bands.

Old Metallica slays everything Slayer done. Much more variety. I belive that slayer influenced the extreme metal scene more than Metallica did, but I belive that Metallica influenced a lot of great thrash (testament, annihilator) and heavy metal bands more than Slayer.

They went to a Metallica concert, which inspired them to play faster and heavier than before according to metal archives.

They should just limit the size. I post on another forum where the limit is a 400x75 image and one line of text, or 4 lines of text. Works well.

Slayer - this is a no brainer

They were excellent all the way up to Seasons in the Abyss. From there they spiralled into the shit they now call "God Hates Us All" which probably should have just been called "God Hates a lot of things, but he especially hates this Album"

What? I love Seasons In The Abyss but they did get weaker after that. Give them a break. It's not easy to make good metal albums for years.

I agree. Seasons was great. I even like parts of Divine Intervention.

Diabolus in Musica was good because it was different.

Slayer, all the way. Old metallica may have influenced the mainstream metal and virtually created the Nu Metal which i find the bane of my existance, with kids going around talking abou t deftones and how much they love metal, and i concede that one of my favorite albums by any artist is Ride the Lightening, but the influence stops at mainstream and rhythm techniques, which suck anyway, but Slayer definately was a steadfast pioneer and a molding force that thrash and extreme metal, which is definately the most technically skillled genre there is. My band is very strongly influenced by Slayer and their riff building techniques, which like Tom Morello and unlike Kirk Hammet, dont exactly follow the traditional music theory, forcing kerry king and his followers, myself included, to constantly think outside the box, and reshape the face of extreme music.

If they're going to release great slabs of shit, I'll point the releases out as being great slabs of shit. Seasons... annoys me, but it is their best post-South of Heaven album.

I like GHUA and most of the Slayer cds. My favorite is probably Reign in Blood.

I like Slayer beter than Metallica, and i think they were a bit more influential, but if they were inspired by Metallica, then that means Metallica should win the vote.
