Hey, if you come into work blazed up to all hell and start pissing on coworkers, getting fired just means your boss beat you to the punch. :loco:

What is all of this "Metallica is more memorable" garbage? I don't think I've ever seen the word used so many times to describe why someone likes a band.

Slayer not memorable? Go have your ears checked, listen to Show No Mercy (which slays anything Metallica could have imagined creating) and Seasons in the Abyss and get back to me.

Queers. :loco:

At least this didn't bomb like my Suffocation v. Morbid Angel thread. Suffocation >>>>>>> Morbid Angel. :p

I owned six Slayer albums, and all I remember is the opening of Reign in Blood with that annoying high pitched girlie yell, and the title track from Seasons in the Abyss. Slayer should be spelled B-O-R-I-N-G or O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D

I haven't listened to a Metallica album in probably 10 years, no shit, man. And I bet could still sing-a-long with RtL and MoP.

It's very simple:

The logic of something being memorable means it has a tune or riff that is outstanding. Metallica use melody and sing actual songs (meaning Hetfield sings notes and octaves in his vocals).

Slayer are thrashfestblitzkrieg - angry guitars, melodious-free solos, and shouting vocals. That is why they are not as memorable.

By the way, don't take that as a positive/negative, I'm just pointing out the obvious difference. There is no doubt in my mind why "One" is more memorable than "War Ensemble".

Oh yeah, Metallica get played on the radio a lot -- at least in the USA. Geez, you don't get any metal on the radio in the UK and I come here and you guys have rock stations that play 2 hours of "Mandatory Metallica" every Sunday.

Well I would say Metallica is pretty memorable. Alright, call this riff:

DUHN!

DUHN. DUHN. DAAAAAAH!!!

Duhn da DUHN dada DUHN dada DUHN da DUHN da DUHN da DA-DUHN.

You know you know it. :tickled:

hahahahahahhaa YESSSSSSSSS!@!!!!!1111111

I guess different things are memorable to different people. Metallica is certainly more melodic and catchy, got the hooks and all, but the song "Show No Mercy" sticks in my head better than most Metallica songs, same with "Blood Red" and whatnot. "Escape" is one of Metallica's best songs, now there is a memorable motherfucker.

It would have been cool if I would have thought to add Megadeth and Anthrax too. I know Anthrax would have got at least one vote. :loco:

I have "Rust in Peace" and "Countdown to Extinction" and like them both. I'm going to take advantage of BMG's "I'll give you twelve CDs for next to nothing" offer pretty soon and I'm going to get either So far... or Peace Sells..., probably the former. Also going for some Sepultura, Maiden, Sabbath, Overkill and Death. :kickass:

Killing is My Business would ride you like a gay rodeo clown if you enjoy Show No Mercy.

I've always thought Show No Mercy to be EXTREMELY underrated by the way, nobody ever talks about that one. The Anti-Christ alone makes the album 8/10. :kickass:

They pretty much exhausted themselves on Rust in Peace. I can recommend that you get everything prior to RiP with confidence. Even I need to get the debut (now that it's been finally remastered).

Do get both, there is just too much good stuff to miss. When you hear "Set the World Afire / Into the Lungs of Hell", you are going to cream your thongs. But when you hear "Wake up Dead", you're going to jizz up in your eyes.

Also going for some Sepultura, Maiden, Sabbath, Overkill and Death. :kickass:

Sepultura - Arise, Beneath the Remains, or Schizophrenia (you really should have BtR by now....tut tut).
Maiden - Powerslave or the s/t debut or Killers (get debut or Killers if you want to avoid operatic vocals and go for more 'hole-in-the-wall' punk leanings, plus you already know "Remember Tomorrow", now you can hear it get done properly)
Sabbath - Master of Reality
Overkill - we had a thread on this recently...
Death - Individual Thought Patterns or Sounds of Perseverance

May the force be with you. :kickass:

Oh my. Pleeeeeeeeeeeease tell me you know the material on it and just don't have a proper copy. I once had the original Combat release on tape with These Boots Were Made For Walkin' which kicked all kinds of ass. Last Rites / Loved to Death = one of my favorite 'deth songs. Then there's Wake Up Dead which needs to introduction except "...Diana..." :kickass:

WTF? Of course!! (Actually, I've never owned a proper copy. I've had a cassette copy of this since 1984 believe it or not).

I am DYING to hear the remaster.

Would that be a collectors item now? I bet it would.

I thought so, just had to get my heart pumpin' again. :loco: Probably would be a collector's item. Too bad I don't have it anymore, it was on terminal borrow from a friend of mine and I either lost it or he took it back. Oh well.

Slayer are overated. Thet stole riffs off bands like Kreator and are nowhere near as aggressive or ferocious as many German Thrash bands.

Metallica on the other hand matured and developed their Thrash sound into a classic sound.
