SLAYER!!! (what do you think of them)

i recognize them as a good band, but i've never found that i enjoy their stuff. i sometimes wonder how many people that wear slayer t-shirts, actually really enjoy and embrace their music.

They sound flat to me. Amazing riffs and cool drums (Prefer Lomardo or whatever he is called) in Fantomas though. I just think the vocals sound really flat and emotionless and detatched. There isn't even any aggression in his voice. Just fast and yeah. I cant relate to it, but they are all talented and have made some famous riffs and stuff. Dead Skin Mask is cool, so we covered it using Piano and stuff. But they really aren't a band I can relate to.

He's called Dave Lombardo...;)

I like some of their songs, especially "Seasons in the abbys". But I saw them live at "Fields of rock" and I found their performance really boring... They played really good and they seemed to have fun, but there wasn't this "thing".

And what's with all this "Slaytanic Wehrmacht" and stuff? That's really pissing me on.
But this discussion really sucks...

I used to like them, but then it dawned on me that their music is highly overrated, and they are respected mainly for their impact on the scene and simply how long they've been going for. The music is generally very uninspired and boring... and the solos.. oh god. Great drumming though. Both Paul Bostaph and Dave Lombardo are fantastic.

I find them 100% unlistenable. The only piece of sound they've ever produced that brings me anything but disgust is the main riff of Raining Blood.

i love their old albums (RIB, SOH, SITA) but that new shit is kinda gay. Me and my friend always bust into a floyd rose dive and start squealing and playing random notes and screaming SLAYER!!! their solos could be better but i like me some SLayer every now and then./

I've been wondering that for years.

I've never been able to get into them, and I've never really wanted to. Same with Anthrax. They both just annoy me.

Slayer deserve legend status because they have influenced so much of the heavy music we listen to today, even if in some ways they have been eclipsed by it. Reign In Blood is so tight and aggressive, it is a must own for anyone interested in the roots of metal. I kind of tuned out after Seasons in the Abyss so I can't really comment on the later stuff.

I grew up with Slayer. I was in my 20's when they appeared on the scene. They were the kings of speed metal in their prime. They were spoken about in the same sentence with the likes of Exodus, Metallica and Anthrax.

They've earned their respect, and I too believe they have legendary status in the metal world.

I never really got into Slayer, they did have some amazing albums such as Seasons In The Abyss and Reign In Blood which I own :P.

They were fucking awesome back in there prime, but in the recent years I haven't really got into them like I use to.

Maybe with there new release I might get back into them.
