That goes for people obsessed with perfumes as well. You also make people around you physically sick as well....and you smell like fucking garbage....
especially them french. :tickled:

Datura, it's called Multiple Chemical Sensivity.

95% of chemicals used in fragrances are synthetic compounds derived from petroleum. They include benzene derivatives, aldehydes and many other known toxics and sensitizers - capable of causing cancer, birth defects, central nervous system disorders and allergic reactions. Central Nervous System disorders (brain and spine) include Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

A room containing an air freshener had high levels of p-dichlorobenzene (a carcinogen) and ethanol: EPA's 1991 study.

An FDA analysis (1968-1972) of 138 compounds used in cosmetics that most frequently involved adverse reactions, identified five chemicals (alpha-terpineol, benzyl acetate, benzyl alcohol, limonene and linalool) that are among the 20 most commonly used in the 31 fragrance products tested by the EPA in 1991!

Interesting but there is this illness beyond asthma which is a autoimmune, endocrine based ilness called Multiple Chemical Sensitivity which is a DISABILITY. I have it. I cannot work in any public place because what is normal levels of toxins in your cosmetics for you to handle can put me in the hospital and has, by simple exposure to other people's perfume and cigarettes. Have you ever thought that you may have inadvertantly sent someone rushing to the emergency room for lifethreatening constricting air passages or seisure from an exposure to YOUR pleasurable perfume habit? Well, you may have. And your 'privilage' does not allow people like me to survive making a living like everyone else, it keeps people like me from being able to go into a workplace, let alone, be able to go into most public places to do simple necessary shopping like the grocery store etc. without spending the next couple of day bed ridden from migraines.

It is a legal disability here in the U.S. and there are work place accomodations for it but not enough, though some cities in Canada have banned people from wearing perfumes in public buildings. This is NOT an allergic response, this is a neurotoxic, systemic autoimmune response. This isn't a matter of long term exposure making you sick, this is an immediate physical response. From chronic disabling migraines, which is how it started for me, and other related systemic autoimmune responses (a whole varity of them), asmatic response, to full seisure.
What is a simple pleasure and habit for you is physical misery for a percentage of people around you. Please, like smoking keep it inside your own house.

Educate yourself because in the U.S. about 30% of our population reports some level of this immune system disfunction. Many of which are fully disabled with it like me. And it is growing.

I developed it over a period of years until I became fully disabled.

Aye. :) I used to wear everything, perfumes, etc. But now I can't. I understand about wanting to wear them and I wish I could now. Sometimes I just wish I'd wake up and it would be gone. I have to spend a lot of time seeking products that i can use. I order my soap from Canada, a non-chemical soap. This stuff is harder to find than you can imagine.
I'm not trying to harsh you Sophia, but yes, it is a serious problem for many.

I'm very sorry about your friend. Seriously.

I put up two links with some info.

Journal Of Immunology have studies that can be accessed as well, I believe.

What I hate most is car perfumes, especially vanilla :puke:

Otherwise vanilla ice-cream is my favourite. I don't understand this. Well, maybe I do, the two have nothing to do with each other.

Yeah, the car stuff REALLY sucks. Some of the worst shit.

Don, it's not about cancer, dude. We're all gonna die of cancer, who cares? Read the info. if you're really interested.

Sophia, really great your friend is back in the game, totally. :)

interesting you say about your glands though because mine have been swollen perpetually for years, glands in my throat, elsewhere. For me i think they're just overworking to process toxins, I'm assuming.

>>>>"they told me that because of this i am more sensitive to smells and that i should avoid strong chemicals and that"

That's amazing. You'd have a hard time getting a doctor here to admit that , let alone give you the proper advice. Very cool. :)
