I'll second checking the snare wires and making sure the tuning is dialed in. The Tama 42-strand snares are pretty cool, but I find that they can get a bit out of control.
414's on the bottom of the snare are great, but my all-time favorite bottom snare mic is the Audio Technica AT4033a. When I use one of those, I can almost get away without processing it. Just a small bump at 200 hz usually does it.
