So does ND see a dime from this?

The technical response is that any monies earned from cd sales, online download sales, etc., all go to the label who then pay us our royalties when applicable. Once the label and everyone else gets their cut, and then any recoupable money is accounted for, we then get our share. Our label is very good about handling all this and paying us.

Now if your question is if we actually make any real money for our own pockets, that's a whole 'nother story. Needless to say a band like ours doesn't profit very much and what profits we do make goes right back into the band, as we still pay for quite a few band necessities ourselves. If there's one thing that always irked me when reading people's comments on other forums and stuff, it's when people talk about underground bands who "sell out" or are "rich" or whatever. Most bandmembers in heavy bands would make more money if they worked at McDonalds, and that's the honest truth. Even some of the "big" bands in the heavy scene would surprise you if you knew how little they actually make in profit for themselves.

Larry - My question wasn't really about how "much" money was made. It was more regarding on how a site like YAHOO obtains the songs to be available for download.

Right, I understood that, and pretty much answered that in my first paragraph....

....however, not all the songs of ours I see being offered there are part of our deal with The End, they're from our past record deals as well. That's a whole different matter....

Do you guys know exactly how many times your songs have been downloaded from sites such as Yahoo?
Sorry if these are pain in the ass questions.
I am genuinely curious to know.
I am curious to know how many people into underground metal are using these newer forms of media.

I had a trial subscription to www.emusic.com, and I wound up liking it a lot more than I thought I would. I became fans of a lot of bands from first downloading an album
(Granted it is, and never will be the same, as owning the actual release, with the full color packaging and what not).

I remember hearing a commercial on the radio where an elderly woman made $100 a week at Mcdonalds and was proud and glad as heck that she did. :) Maybe you guys should play some birthday parties, graduations, weddings, and charge $100 per performance.. or more. :)
