So does ND see a dime from this?

ok, so I was wondering, As this is relative to the above post. If you do a google search for Shroud Of Bereavement, there are like 1 zillion mp3 download places where you can get our albums(with artwork) for like 79 cents or 5 cents a song, WTF is that? No one ever asked our permission, not that I care, because there is no real money to be made, I guess I am just mad that no one asked. What's with that?

Well unfortunately, the problem is that most bands will not have the legal backing and power (i.e. money) to be able to pursue legal action against these places that do this stuff. Plus, I mean I can see the logic behind thinking "well it pisses me off but oh well we don't see a dime from this anyhow" as we can surely relate to that, but at the same time, a big part of the reason none of us make any money is because of the fact that shit like this happens and nothing is really done about it. The music business in general is designed to make everyone money except the actual artist. It's hard enough to be able to make money and continue what you're doing in this biz without having to contend with people who take it upon themselves to decide that your music and hard work ought to just be given away freely to anyone who wants it, much less some people who think it's okay to profit from your music, even at 5 cents a song, when they basically did nothing to deserve it. And if your music is being given away or sold on one of those crazy Russian download sites, forget it, the laws there regarding this stuff are so convoluted, you'll never see a penny of that.

Stay in school kids, be a lawyer. Trust me. lol

Well, I chose accounting....
If I can't play bass for Novembers Doom, you guys should incorporate and I can do your taxes!!!!

Ok, all kidding aside, all the reasons stated above is why I like to whenever possible purchase CDs from the bands themselves.

Thanks for the reply guys, yeah it bums me out for sure, But there really isn't much that can be done i guess. I definitely buy as much as I can afford from the bands as much as possible. And I can assure everyone, that when people buy from the band, It really really makes a difference.
And thanks again to all of ND for buying merch from us when we were on tour, that was VERY stand up of you guys!
