So uhh... Manowar

Dude, if songs like:

Secret of Steel
Gates of Valhalla
Gloves of Metal
March For Revenge
Hatred
Battle Hymn
The Oath
Bridge of Death
Blood of My Enemies
Dark Avenger

...then just give up. Basically, if the album Into Glory Ride doesnt send shivers down your spine, then ya might as well take up embroidery as a profession.

Maybe Leigh just sucks at picking songs. I may download some of those if I can be arsed and give them one final, all-or-nothing try. How many of them use what seems to be (from what I've heard) Manowar's standard "Boom... pow... boom... pow" drum beat (a la "Warriors of the World")?

I wish i could witness that show.

You do.
Words like "amazing", "phenomenal" "outstanding" etc, are poor to describe the glory and grandeur that Manowar deliver on stage. I thank God that made me worthy of this experience. They playlist came directly from a dream with songs like "Each Dawn I Die" , "The Oath" "March For Revenge", "Blood Of My Enemies", "Gloves Of Metal", "Holy War", "Kill With Power", "Black Wind Fire And Steel", "Hail And Kill" and the absolute highlights : "Mountains" and "Secret Of Steel". When they played the last one, i could not believe that i'm finally hearing live what is prooobably my favourite song of all times. "LOUDER THAN HELL" sound and Eric Adams screaming his guts out with a more than just shivering performance. This is by far the most METAL show i ever witnessed, dethroning Helstar and Jag Panzer whose shows had that title. Seriously if you don't at least appreciate Manowar's first 4 albums you don't know/understand anything about metal.

So, I just tried listening to "Gates Of Valhalla"... Nope, still doing nothing for me. The vocalist is great, the solos are nice, but the actual song seemed to consist of about three parts - the clean guitar intro, a single chord going 'dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun' and then that 'DAAH! Dun-dun-DAAH! Dun-dun-DAAH-dun-dun-DAAH-dun-dun-DAAH-dun-dun-DAAH!' part. I imagine live, surrounded by thousands of fans all fist-pumping away at the 'DAAH's, the song's pretty energising. To me, sat at home, it just sounded simplistic and repetetive as a generic metalcore breakdown, except the whole fucking song was like it.

Ironically, that was not a favorite of mine from that album initially. It's maximum ruleage now, but when I first got it forever ago, the song that kicked my ass in initially was "Gloves of Metal" just for that opening riff....

Goddamn I need to listen to "Into Glory Ride" now.

Some of the best songs ever are some of the most simple songs ever, just to let you know.

Lol at reffering "metalcore" when describing a Manowar song. Seriously, listen to it again, and remember that this doesn't have to be like the music released now. It's simple stuff, the highlight is the emotions and the epic atmosphere. The "dun dah dah dun dah dah" you make fun of, was never done in metal until then, and try to think how many bands have copied it.

Hail To England will always be my favorite Manowar. The very first song I ever heard by them was "Blood of My Enemies." That song IS the definition of heavy metal.

manowar arent any more cheesy than some of the black death metal bands who cover themselves in blood and wear upside down crosses these are for most bands only a gimmick something to market them and sell records

Shame that wasn't one of them.

Yep, and those bands suck too.

What's up with the annoying "beeping" harmonics on the Hail to England album? Anyone notice those? I recently bought the remaster hoping they would have eliminated them but alas...

They're mostly prevalent on "Blood of my Enemies" and "Kill with Power". It sounds like a palm-muted harmonic but really just sounds like a little BEEP.

I don't even understand what you are talking about

You don't hear that??? Go listen to Kill with Power as one example.

but you have to go to a doctor if you care about any other factor rather than the undisputable GLORY if this masterpiece.

Haha, ok, no disagreement about how good the album is.....I bought the "silver edition" digipak remastered, so I've paid my dues...but it has its flaws. The retardation that is "Black Arrows" aside, et voila:

kill with power...BEEP [1:21]
DIE DIE....BEEP [1:24]
Kill with power ....BEEP [1:27]
DIE DIE DIIIE......BEEEEEP [1:29]

[In brackets are the time at which each dreaded beep occurs]. And by the way, each BEEP is in the right speaker, or right headphone. Not sure how you can't notice this....but it is grating. :tickled:

It's just a shame they didn't remove this in the remaster...which by the way, sounds EXACTLY the same as the original. Goddamn Joey and his KISS-like marketing scams. :loco:
