For the past few months i lack any creativity i got demotivated. i feel like all my songs are generic and pattern like.. i cant express sny creativity. i am not a singer and i cant write lyrics, i am having hard time even singing my ideas. so basiclly all i have is binch of riffs, nothing new, nothing speciall and drums from the ssd grooves. what are your suggestions?

Well, everytime I have this kind of lack of ideas I just set it back and stop trying to write something.
Because always when I force something it turns out as shit and will be deleted anyways. Just take the time you need to get a fresh mind.

Do you suggest completly different genres? also do you find it possible to write songs without lyrics!

Don't know if this will help with writing, but I know when I hit a mixing wall or just feel uncreative, I find watching music documentaries/studio videos a lot of help.

Pretty much any time i feel like that I watch that, or any of the classic album ones. Charles Dye's mixing dvd is good too...pretty much anything studio related. I find it helps pick me up a bit.

Suggestions:
-Build a song on someone else's text. Could be a novel, poem, love letter whatever. I did a little project with short horror stories. 1 page stories do well for usual 3-7 minutes songs. Or longer stories you can divide in chapters (2-3 songs for the whole story) or 40 minutes song a la Edge of Sanity Crimson 1-2.

-Porcupine Tree's Blackest eyes, song is on a serial killer burying people in his garden. It could be from a newspaper article as well a lot of people are inspired by the news. (sunday bloody sunday comes to mind... )

-Start a song from a different sound on your favorite instrument.

-Start from a melody.

-Start from chords.

-Start from an acapella blabla from a singer.

-Start from the riff you found just fooling around on your favorite instrument.

Keep it simple and be sure to have fun !!!!!

your projects seems interesting! do you have anything i can listen to from it?

Nothing serious came out of it (the horror stories). It's only scratch tracks I did with an old pall. But the result is pretty nice its a shame we didn't finish it.
I recently did a clip with bodyz and song on a political situation here in Quebec its very low budget and crappy but it still made it on a local radio lol!
For a song inspired from the news here's one.
Keep in mind it ment to be a funny project to claim our rights the political message is more important than the song in this case.

I worked on the lyrics and some ideas for the clip on this one.

We all suffer from a lack of motivation on occasion. Even the most energetic and productive of people have times when they just don’t feel motivated to work towards their goal. So what do you do when you lack the necessary motivation to take action? We’ll discuss a few things you can do to help to get past the sticking point and resume your journey.

Here's another simple trick: guitarists more often than not think in patterns, like repeating scales up and down or riffing on E or A strings, similar stuff all day. What works for me is playing stuff from other genres and - sometimes more important - originating from other instruments than guitar. That may even be computer game or movie tune and stuff like that. Besides breaking free of trained patterns, it is also worth a laugh in the rehearsal room to play the Streetfighter II or Star Trek theme :)

I don't think you can force creativity. For me if anything new is happening in my life I get more creative. Basically any new good or bad situations impact how I write music, and why I write music. If your writing is stale maybe your stuck in a rut with your day to day life. Most likely you will find your muse again next time your really sad or happy

This was by far the best thing I've ever heard on this subject. John Cleese never stops to amaze me. Every single thing he said was recognizable and explains a lot of trouble I'm having or have been going through. And best of all: the information is usable, by making you aware of what is causing a blockade.

Thanks you so much for posting this. This may very well end up changing my life in a positive way.
