My buddy Reverend Shoebox interviewed Joey Belladonna on his radio show Metallic Onslaught. Unfortunatley I couldn't hear the whole interview but I tossed out two questions for him to ask (What does he think of the rerecording of his old songs with Bush/Why didn't he answer the sludge questions) and heres his answers via aim convo:

Shoebox: So anyway, what I didn't tell you was, I asked Belladonna both of the questions you suggested.

me: and what did he say?

Shoebox: As far as the new live-in-the-studio recordings of old stuff, he said basically he takes that as a compliment...that as much as the band talks about how great their new stuff is as compared to the old shit, the fact that they're re-recording the old stuff indicates it's still good and that people still like it.

Shoebox: And the Metal Sludge thing just turned him off because he thought they were just trying to stir shit up and get him to bash people...and he didn't think that was cool. He knows about the "pussy list" and says he's gotten a lot of angry e-mail because of not doing it.

Shoebox: He's got a decent sense of humor, but he's not really a funny guy. Nice guy, and very interesting, but quite serious.

Shoebox: The new CD's way better than "Spells Of Fear," that's for damned sure

...Just thought somoene might care...

BTW I'm just DLing the new Joey's record samples. God does it suck ass.
He played the drums on this record also?
Well my advice is: Quit singing-become a drummer. Then there might be someone who offers you a gig.

Have you ever seen Joey Belladonna sing live?
Demos and samples aren't shit.

Have you ever seen Joey sing live?

NO, when I don't count Live-The Island Years.
On which the vocals sucked.

No Dude, not a recording of a live show. A real live show.

His voice is stellar live and in person.

I just got the new Belladonna cd in the mail today, I like it. I REALLY dig Anthrax with John, but Joey was awesome, and still is, his live shows are great!!! What's also cool is he personally signs the inside of each disc purchased. He's a class act, liked him then, like him now. Granted, the quality of the recording on this new disc isn't all that great, but to me he still kicks ass!!!

And the fact that they keep re-releasing old stuff in any form means
people want it more than the new stuff with John Bush and their
guitar-player-of-the-week.

And

Scott and Charlie need to keep making money somehow so they keep
cashing in on the only part of Anthrax that was lucrative.
Without Joey and Danny and without SOD they don't make much.

My 2 Cents

Did anyone in Anthrax ever put down their old stuff? Rob's been with Anthrax for over two years. And what band doesn't keep re-releasing older material in different forms? Anthrax hasn't done enough of that, IMHO.

anthrax are re-recording their old stuff because, i believe, joey's vocals sucked so much on all these songs. and recording it with bush will sound a thousand times better. this record will be for the fans who love bush's vocals way better than joey's lame off key, high pitched singing - and bush will rule on all the belladona era tunes. just you wait...
