Something i'm in the process of working on....read or die

No Care Ever
I thought i'd post something i'm in the process of working on for a change. Might be good to get some input earlier in the mixing process.

There are sound effects missing in the gaps towards the end, and there is no volume automation done yet, so there will be several parts where vox or drums are too loud.

The ending with the piano isnt done yet. will be adding alot more to that.

this is the first time i recorded a real bass amp, and i'm pretty pleased

UPDATE: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/536384/By Blood and Iron/v 3/infernal.mp3

I reamped the guitars using Ryans AWESOMETIME s-highpresence impulse

I also adjusted the bass a bit to fill things out, tweaked some levels, added delay to the lead part, as added a gay machine gun thing the band wanted, and did a few things of my own toward the end of the song. I also reworked the piano outro

That sounds awesome. What is used for the guitars and drums?

Sounds exactly like Born of Osiris.

i wouldn't say exactly like born of osiris, but very similar.

Guitars are Pod XT. Dual tracked on metal parts, quad tracked on heavy parts.

Drums are tracked using triggers and resampled with slate samples with slate samples. Rhode NT5 overhead mics

Vox are cheap as hell AT3035 with tooonnsss of C1 compression

Yeah, I was mainly talking about that keyboard part/solo.

Would you mind posting the pod patch? That is one of the best I've heard.

brian has always had awesome pod tones, and this one is no exception!

i still listen to before my ends track! (that ear sex by byran and or brian one.. haha)

funny i should start listening to this, i was JUST listening to osiris, and yea, they are similar in a few ways, this has a WAY better sound that than the osiris recordings though, its fucking heavy. good job brian!

thanks,

its so weird I cant really offer any advice. I really think it sounds awesome Brian. I wish I could get that kind of balance mix wise. You and Joey rule.

wow i fucking need slate drums (which kick and snare are you using?)
great sound
and fucking great song
cant wait to hear it finished >.<

hey brian, as usual sounds great...u limited the overheads on this one? they sound a lot better to me than the previous one you know when i said the overheads sounded funky

also when using pod do u use the built in noise gate or you use one in your daw...or at al

and finally (haha sorry about all the questions) the at3035...have you recorded any melodic vocals through it...would you recommend it?

Thank you:)

I used Kick 10 with some fairly heavy EQ, and i wanna say snare 12, but i'm not 100%(im on my laptop right now). All z1 samples

Yeah i limited the overheads again. It definitely sounds much much better to me this time as well. The trick was to adjust the the threshold so that it basically brickwalls the hard snare hits while leaving the cymbals as untouched as possible. At most sections the cymbals have a 0 to -4 attenuation(this the correct word? hahha), while most snare hits went as low as -10 to -15

I use the pod noise gate while recording(usually set to around -45 to -50 thresh or whatever), but i hand edit all the gaps in the guitar tracks(particularly the breakdowns), so it doesnt really make a difference whether or not i use a gate. The main reason i use it is so the hissing doesn't annoy me while we're tracking guitar.

As far as recommending the at3035, i would definitely say its amazing for the money, and a good starter mic for anyone(i've only been doing this since january, so i'm still on my starter mic haha). I will definitely be upgrading to something else as soon as i get a new mic pre though.

Ehi brian..vocals of Carridale are an example of melodic vocal tracks with at3035,right?about pod of this song, which preset?and post processing?thank you..

This sounds great! The delivery of the vocals is absolutely awesome I think. I totally love this song!!!

The tones are great too and the drums sound great. Good job. :)
