I listen to so much non-metal stuff I could name thousands of good songs, but these are a few pop songs I like:

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
A-Ha - Take on Me
Radiohead - heaps of songs
Anathema - All of A Fine Day to Exit
Sigur Ros - heaps of songs
Chroma Key - Colorblind, America The Video, S.O.S.
Porcupine Tree - Piano Lessons, Even Less, Pure Narcotic, Radioactive Toy
Tori Amos - Winter, Mother

I could continue for a long time but I won't.

Camel - Air Born
Camel - The Final Encore
Pink Floyd - Dogs
Pink Floyd - Echoes
Gordian Knot - Some Brighter Thing
Gordian Knot - Rivers Dancing

Hmmm, a few ones I agree with ( or have heard at least ) so far...

Anyway, here's what I think:

1)Yes-Close To The Edge (Actually, this is as metal as rock can get I think...)
2)Porcupine Tree-Trains
3)Anekdoten-Karelia
4)Anekdoten-The Old Man and The Sea
5)Don Caballero- Slice Where you Live Like Pie

Actually, this is quite a tough decision. I listen to as much non-metal as I listen to metal these days...But I don't actually like either better than the other. Good music is good music to me...Though I never thought I see the day when I listened to as much or more of prog/rock than metal...

I listen to probably more non-metal than metal, but here are a few of my favourite non-metal bands:
Kyuss, Eleven Pictures, Satanic Surfers, Bombshell Rocks, Fugazi, Clutch,
Death by Stereo, and ermm....the police.

Rush-Xanadu
Camel-Air Born
Dream Theater-Trial Of Tears(live)
Porcupine Tree-Baby Dream In Cellophane
Cranberries-Daffodil Lament
Steve Vai-For The Love Of God
Led Zepplin-Since I've Been Loving You(live)
Van Halen-5150(cheesy as hell but awesome geetar!)
Pink Floyd-Dogs

Personal faves:

BÖC-Don't fear the Reaper, Take Me Away, In the presence of another world

Pink Floyd-Dogs,Sheep

Dire Straits-Sultans of Swing, and one other that I can't think of namewise

Montrose- Space Station #5

Caravan-Nightmare(killer violin solo :tickled: )

Camel-Lady Fantasy

Rush-about 20 songs

Orange Goblin-Land of Secret Dreams

The Stones-Gimme Shelter

9000 others, I just don't feel like typing.

95% of the metal I hear these days is shit anyway... well I can't really say that but most of them just copy other bands.
The Beatles
Nirvana
A perfect Circle
Tool ( don't concider these guys metal, experimental rock at it's finest)
Phish
Pink Floyd
Rush
Yes
Radiohead

Nor did I .. we used to be such hardcore metalheads dude .. But I've found music outside the genre (as a whole) that I cannot compare to music inside but can still enjoy just as much or more .. like radiohead's new album for example .. good music ... too many bands in metal these days are tryin way too hard to be like there influences.
I've heard 50 In Flames copys... there must be 100 of the same for At the Gates .... barely any of these bands pull it off .. and if they do it still sounds like the bands they are trying to be like which makes them shitttttttttttttttty..

Porcupine Tree - Trains
