Splitting frequency bands in Cubase SX 3

Is it possible to take a recorded audio file (IE, Bass guitar) and visually split the frequencies onto different channels?

I've looked through the help file and found shit all. This is driving me mad!

Basically all I am trying to acheive is seperate the freqs of a bass line so i can compress/eq and drive the top end and seperately eq/compress the lower end without having to distort that too :/
There must be a way??

Just copy the track and do some hi/low passing.
