hi, i've been thinking to develop more musical skills by startin up with playing guitar, basically i can play a bit, but i dont own a guitar. so i am asking myself about buying a guitar with a floydrose tailpiece.

is it easyer to play a guitar without a floydrose, or do guitars with the strings through the body sound much better?!

thanks!

Yeah, if your getting into playing guitar a floyd rose would be a bit of a hassle. Though, after you've played for a bit, you could upgrade to a standard tremolo, or a floyd rose or Kahler etc..

I'm not even a guitar player, and I would suggest avoiding floyd rose for a while. I've seen far too many frustrated guitar players because of it.

Floyds = Cunts

Only get one if you have a tech near to your location :p Ive spent a shit load on getting mine sorted! Still, my Jackson HAS to have one :)

I've been playing for quite some time (although that doesn't mean I'm good!), and I've owned a couple of guitars that had floyds: I used to think "hey, I can do dive bombs and super string stretches!" Then I realised that changing strings took me hours, and that I couldn't really set it properly myself. And that I didn't actually do ANY dive-bombs or stuff like that when I was playing properly, as I did when I was just playing around... Go for a string thru or a stop tailpiece, your nerves will thank you.

Without!

Whenever I had a guitar with a floyd, I never progressed as much, cause I was too busy fucking with the whammy bar.

That's pretty much it- will you use the whammy or not?
If you like your 80's rock/ metal and you wana play alot of stuff with it, then go for, it. Otherwise, there's no point in having it really.

Learn without it, if you need one get one. They're a hassle if you don't have a lot of time and patience (which you should be spending on practice) and not necessary - or helpful - to your playing until you have the chops to hold your own without one. You should be able to solo without relying on a whammy (Kerry King, I'm looking at YOU!) or other toys, and if you're going to have it become a serious part of your sound you need to develop the rest of your ability or it'll just be awful.

I'd say for your first axe get a fixed tailpiece as they are cheaper and easier to maintain. Maybe for your second get one with a Floyd but only if you are going to be either a soloist or want to do vibrato on chords. All my guitars have Floyds except one which is my main rhythm tracking gtr. I like Floyds for their tuning stability and the ability to do chordal vibrato on clean parts as well as the funny stuff while soloing. But for you that's like needing a Ferrari to learn to drive.

the problem is i like to buy a esp ltd mh model in black :)

all the mh models under 400euros aren't black or they are black an come with a tremolo...

isn't there a chance to fix/freez the floyd rose licensed tremolo thing, so that it isnt flying/moving anymore?

and if i could freez the tremolo isnt this like playing a normal bridge?

a lot of subtle... and some not so subtle.... "manipulations" of floyds are a hallmark of my style.. one of the hallmarks anyway.. but i spent my first few years without using them much at all... even recorded my first album, Death's "Spiritual Healing", completely without a "bar"... before i started seriously digging into using them.

Yeah ive heard you using one often during harmonised solos, such as the Roadrunner one IIRC.

The Floyd is the sin of the 80s! Of the countless guitarists using the "bar" that I've heard so far I can name maybe 5 that used it in a (for my taste) remarkable and tasty way. I'd suggest that you get fixed bridge and once you're comfortable with the instrument get another guitar with a Floyd if you'll still be aching for one by then.

i am one of those!!!

i have another guitar with out the floyd... gosh :heh:

:headbang:

and please dont buy a ibanez guitar.. start with a ltd or something like that but not ibanez!

I feel much tighter with floyd because my hand is lying on the body, while on a tonepros bridge like the one on my schecter c7 I'm not really that tight!
Oh I think floyds and fender-style bridges work really great for tight music eheheh
Most of death metal guy use floating bridge, Chuck used a fixed bridge and Daath guys as well
