I wont put my own CD on the shelf and if i cant expose it i dont care about it. Nobody will be like "OMG LOOK AT YOUR AMAZING COLLECTION OF BURNED CDS AND PIRATED GAMES".

Agree. I bought a few albums from iTunes like 5 years ago. Never again. I paid almost full price for it and when my computer crashed, guess what? I wasn't allowed to download them again! Apparently it was a one-time payment, one-time download... :bah:

You're right, that solution wouldn't help someone who's simply trying to show off how much stuff they have. I just remain committed to getting some sort of payment to artists that I appreciate.

Five years ago? That was probably due to the DRM that used to be on digital music, because you can definitely redownload purchases in iTunes: Download past purchases from iTunes.

Also, additional "obvious statement is obvious" – going mostly digital means backup, backup, backup. (I have CrashPlan constantly running as well as a separate external drive. I still need one additional solution, off-site but more accessible than CrashPlan drive.)

Oh yeah of course! I didn't really think to backup that stuff though as I thought I could just download it again - good to know they changed their ways though :)
 
Backing up is a way of life. I have a backup HDD, a DVD book full of DVD backups, and now that I'm on the Blu-Ray gravy train I also have everything on Blu-ray. If all three of these plans fail, I don't deserve my collection of data and shows and such.

I'm waiting for that EMP to land any day now just to troll me...
 
That reminds me of a disaster from 3 years ago. I had some important shit, a lot of important shit and one day I thought "Damn, i need to back up those files, just in case" I orderer external HDD because it would take ages to burn everything on CDs or transfer to pendrives (and i had some shitty ones like 1 gb at that time).
So, after 3 days the postman arrives. It was morning, so I just woke up, collected the parcel, unpacked the HDD and decided to back everything up immediately.

Yea, my HDD broke that day. At first i just had this flickering screen, then blue screen 3 times in a row and then nothing. I cried.
