Stereo System

This kit right here is awesome, especially the '80s silver finish that's hard to find nowadays.
silver finish is "in" again, or well i guess it's "brushed aluminIum" these days. black plastic stereo components are sooo 1990's

EDIT: note also the broken "power" and "eject" buttons on the cd player

I like how all the components are from different manufacturers. Say No to uniformity!
i just salvage whatever i can. i've paid a grand total of 0 SEK (approx $0) for that whole rig

EDIT: but i'm selling out soon and buying a brand new, decent record player

Work: some 10 watt Sony boombox with Mega Bass! :D
Home: Playstation hooked up to a 10 year old Aiwa shelf system with a broken CD player.
Truck: Stock Toyota radio with 6 speakers. Sounds good enough to make me not want to invest in aftermarket stuff.
3 years later and the following changes have been made:

Work: same
Home: Playstation 2 through the same (now 13 year old) Aiwa shelf system with a broken CD player.
Car: stock Subaru 6-disc 6-speaker with shitty bass response

Oh and I now own a Sony Discman and an iPud.

and btw im sorry to shatter your illusions but the speakers are JVC as well

once upon a time this was my father's old stereo system and there was a jvc amp, jvc tape deck and jvc record player but they've all broken since, and the speakers are kinda dodgy as well. cd player is jolly fine though (except the broken buttons i guess)

Anybody old enough to remember furniture with built in stereo equipment? My grandparents had this hideous sky blue dresser thing that had one of those old chrome faced receivers built in, somewhere I have a picture of my 3-year old ass listening to Supertramp via gigantaur headphones with it. :headbang:

no but I remember when TVs were built as if they *were* a piece of furniture, with wood surrounds and all that. Kinda like a dresser with a TV in it where the drawers would be. My 90 year old g-parents still have one.

lol I had one of those, someone gave it to me, and after a while I took all the parts out and used it for a guinea pig pen.

Until recently my mum still used one of these. She'd taken it from one of her parents or something. It wasn't that it ever broke either, just that she eventually got around to replacing it. That old stuff NEVER breaks! They clearly don't make things these days to the standard that they used to.

I'd hate to witness the transport of one of these devices. How'd people get them into their homes?

The absolute hardest thing to get rid of is a big mattress when it has to come down a flight of (narrow) stairs. I have literally nearly died before trying to do this!

Seconded. Took two delivery dudes to bring my king upstairs and they had to bend it all up and tore my stairs up in the process. I think when I move, I'll just leave it.
