Stoner Rock for the Summer -- any recommendations?

i saw a video for "wolves of winter" or some shitz last night (thank you digital cable) and it was pretty :kickass:
I listened to them yesterday at FYE. Pretty cool music. I didn't buy it because I was on my way to CD Warehouse, where I found some good stuff and ended up spending $110. I cut myself off there.

I'm not so sure about lasting appeal of this Wolfmother, methinks it will be hard to keep this in regular rotation while there are so many borderline amazing groups of this type right about now. But hey, my free CD-R is working out just fine for the time being. :dopey:
I'm glad I didn't buy this stupid album. By my third listen I was highly annoyed. This is stoner for pop culture hipsters who think they know what's really goin' on but are too busy walking around crosseyed after consuming too many Redbull and vodkas. Hackneyed bullshit all tossed together with no coherency, this is the Cradle of Filth of stoner.

So far all I've heard is part of 3, which is allegedly different from their previous albums since the guitarist jumped ship for Monster Magnet (I think?). It rocked pretty hard, but felt a little too rooted in some sort of "radio rock" vibe, like they stripped out all the jams. and no jams = no fun.

I've been wanting to hear their prior albums, and just yesterday got in their first disc from AllThatsHeavy as a freebie!

Gonna check it out later on, I'll let you know. Everyone says good things about it from what I've heard.

I've never heard Atomic Bitchwax but stonerrock.com tries to sell their album alongside Unida and Solace so I need to check them out. Speaking of that:

Bump for TIS THE SEASON, even though I listen to this shit year round. Not that I've heard anything new lately, but there's still some good learnin' to be found here.

Holy shit AppleOfMyIOfEveryBoner, nice fookin' avatar. That movie kicked my dick in.

Wolfmother still blows. Hard.

Seriously, recommend some more good stoner metal bands! Not mainstream anything that I would see at Best Buy, but Kvlt Stoner stuff! The weather is getting nice here and I'm already in that stoner metal mood where I put away the black metal and don't even look at it again until November. So, how about less discussing of things, more recommending of bands!

Has anyone ever listened to HELLFUELED from Sweden? They are pretty awesome heavy stoner metal with a really good 'young ozzy' type vocalist. I was totally sold on buying one of their CDs, but their album cover art sucked...oh and their band name is gay, so I saved my money.

More bands?

Honcho - Corporate Rock
Hangnail - Clouds In The Head & Tens Days Before Summer
House of Aquarius - The World Through Bloodred Eyes
Madking Ludwig - s/t
Obiat - Emotionally Driven Disturbance
Spiritual Beggars - On Fire, Ad Astra
Unida - El Coyote
Colour Haze - ANYTHING
The Rubes - Hokum
Dead Meadow - s/t
Brant Bjork - Jalamanta

yada yadda

...a lot of so called "stoner rock" is just down-tuned straight ahead hard rock.

i rule.

Cavalar - As a Metal of Fact

This band is right up swizzlemynizzle, Iofstorm, Doompoofer, and Nadicle's alley. Background music for an M.T.V dating show these tunes are not. Heavily influenced by Black Sabbath.

Buy or Die if you're in to this genre. Band even has a negar for you political correct types out there.

Listen to "Rush" or "New Empire".

Been grooving on Blues for the Red Sun finally. Sure, it's getting into winter here and I'm prefering some Aeternus and Watain, but I'm still rocking out to Kyuss and Colour Haze. Can't go wrong with that lot.

That's not too bad, I'll have to further check them out. Sounds promising. It didn't make me think of Stoner rock though.

TIS THE SEASON. :kickass:

I fucking love this video, and it doesn't hurt that this is definitely one of my favourite Kyuss songs. Love how they absolutely nail the ending.

The new Hermano is pretty decent, I've only listened once but it is much better than their horrible second album. Those dudes smoke in concert though.

Unida tonight, from what I've read they brought a shitload of vintage Kyuss merch on tour so I'm going to stop by ze ATM on the way out. :kickass:

Looking forward to listening to the latest Mammatus during hot weather, I didn't fall in love with that album until the weather cooled.

Still haven't picked up any 500 ft. of Pipe, Stoner Rock is always out of stock gawd demmit. Also need some more Brant Bjork, Dozer, and Orange Goblin. There's that Meteor City 3CD compilation I'll probably snag next binge, has a bunch of bands I've never heard of and some rare shit. Foolishly enough I own no Big Business and only one Melvins album. What the fuck is wrong with me? Need to complete the Clutch and Colour Haze collections, still missing a few of those. Lots of other shit I need as well, probably do a few blind purchases for ze fook uv eet. BWARNG!!!

Finally, and only because I haven't stated it for 2008 yet: Fuck Wolfmother.
