The more music you subject yourself to, the more chance of finding some stuff that you will find awesome. Agreed, subjecting yourself to lots of music does not imply mastery or other, and basically I think that everyone tends to find their saturation level of new music. Personally, I don't like to get more than 2 or 3 albums per week, otherwise I find I listen to it once or twice, and to be honest, most albums (the good ones at least), fail to snag me after that few listens. Maybe Grim can hear quality in music a lot quicker than me or (more likely) he has a lot more time on his hands than me.

Being a "middle aged square" I have work, a wife and a kid (soon to be two) competing with music for my attention...

Rappers just talk while singers sing. Don't get me wrong rap is not my favorite kind of music but I'm not closed minded about it and I know there is talented underground rap (at least lyrically speaking) but that doesn't change the fact that they just talk over beats.
