Suicide Silence Snare Sound

Wasn't sure which section to post this in, but thought this would be alright.

I know there's quite a few people here that aren't major fans of this band, but personally I really like them, and I'm really interested in how they achieve their snare sound.

I've tried searching for answers here and elsewhere on the internet, but haven't managed to find any.

Is this sound mostly a product of the snare drum, microphone, or mic placement? (or maybe even something else?) I'm assuming one of those would factor into the overall sound more than the others...

Hope someone can shed some light on it.

sounds pretty typical to me, honestly...sample replaced, compressed to all hell, and with a bit of reverb

I am a big fan of that snare as well. Tue Madsen who mixed the album has a way with snares. Albums hes mixed all sound super fat and have a great smack. Not sure how he does it.

@colonel kurtz: Fair enough dude, I don't personally think it sounds that typical, but that's just my opinion, I guess it might just be my ears...

@Sinister Mephisto: What other stuff has Tue Madsen done that should be ckecked out snare-wise?

I'm not really sure what it is about the snare that makes it stand out to me. It has a bit of a weird..."boing"-y sound, I really don't know how else to discribe it haha. It kinda also doesn't sound like it has a lot of the actual snare (the metal springy bit) going on tbh.

I'm really digging the album "The Cleansing" right now. Great fucking riffs throughout. "Hands of a Killer" That fucking snare is badass! Just tight as hell with the right smack. The reverb makes it sound like it's behind the guitars and vox. Good mix on this one.

im agreeing with colonel kurtz here its pretty standard death/ thrash core sound (as blood runs black are a great example of this snare) its all compressed
