Fantastic album, and yet nothing more or nothing less from Summoning. Just another solid offering from a great epic band.

Standout songs are the three-hit sequence of: "Might & Glory", "Beleriand", and "Northward".

That said, possibly a contender for top song of the year....drum roll....."LAND OF THE DEAD".

And just to substantiate my argument a little further, cos you know, I like to be specific, I'm talking at the PIVOTAL moment at 7:30m when the male choirs kick in and let the song play out for the last 5 minutes.

"Land of the Dead" is a song I can play on repeat all day.

Is it the best Summoning? Too soon to tell, but in reality, Summoning can't have a "best" album just because they're all so consistent (for the most part) and let's face it, similar sounding.

This CD is so damn good. Ive been listening to it quite obsessively for the past few weeks, in fact I listened to it non-stop all day yesterday. "Land of the Dead" is the most epic song I've heard in a good while. The choir on that song just sounds incredible. This might be my favourite summoning already, best album I've heard this year so far for sure.

I think 9 fans out of 10 would say the 2 best Stronghold and Dol Guldur, indeed.

Oath Bound is pretty good and certainly better than LMHSYF which I like nonetheless. The only Summoning release that is really forgettable is the Lost Tales EP and maybe the first album which I haven't heard yet."Across the Screaming Tide" f'ing rules too :kickass:

Can there be a "best" Summoning? Ob-fucking-viously, and its name is "Dol Guldur". Only "Stronghold" comes close to touching it...

This is so true and ironclad I shall open a tuna can and pour its contents over my head, right now.

Yah, I've made it no secret that my favoUrite Summoning albums are both "Dol Guldur" and "Stronghold", leaning towards the latter...but I guess I was saying that overall, they're a very consistent band.

LAND OF THE DEAD -> those choirs really bring it home IMO. Surely going to be one of the best songs of the year. And how clever of them to finish the album with that track! :)

"Across the Streaming Tide" :p

I believe this is slated for an April 24th release in the states.

The closing firecamp flute on "Land of the Dead" might be the gayest thing they ever recorded, it still doesn't put the awesomeness of the song to the trial, luckily.

Yea I know what you mean, the ending sequence where you just have the choir and the flute slowly fading out could go on for 20 more minutes, its that good.

LOL you say gayest I say most awesome.

Don't worry, I wasn't about to let it get out of hand. I know the rules regarding entropy-probation around here LOL

I cannot fucking wait to hear this album.

And who says Lugburz is forgettable? Listen to it again. Sure it's not as sweepingly epic and grandiose as anything after it, but for what it is, it is sure a worthy release.

My faves are still Minas Morgul and Stronghold. I like Dol Guldur, but I'd rather listen to others, including the Nightshade FOrest EP

I think it was me, and I was just saying I hadn't heard it, so it might suck. But now I know it doesn't :p
