Hey guys,

The EMG 81-7 I just ordered got here.

I've got a Schecter Hellraiser that comes stock with 2 707s and want to swap out the bridge one with the 81-7. Since I've never done this, how should I go about it? The whole 'quick connect' thing should make the process relatively painless yes?

Cheers!

Endeed.Hows the 707's connected now?Quick connectors? If so then unplug and put the new one the same way.
I've searched emg's website and both pickups have the same wiring diagram,so there shouldn't be a problem

Ermz, yes it's really simple. Unscrew the old one, pull it up and there will be the connector, unplug it and plug the 81-7 in. Make sure to figure out which side has an arrow on it, it should be facing up (at you, not towards the EMG logo on the front) - as long as you can see it that is the correct orientation.

I'm not sure man, I totally love the Killswitch EOH tone. That muddy, sludgy, fat tone. What was pissing me off was the fret clacking that the 707 really accentuates. Hopefully the 81-7 makes the guitar more mid-friendly.

And of course I'll post any shootouts here!

Well here are the DIs of the Hellraiser with the 81-7s in it. I played a quick pass of the main riff in 'Blinded'.

2 things:

1) I'm way out of practice so forgive the looseness.

2) The guitar is horribly intonated so if you hear something that sounds out of tune, it most likely is!

Also, I haven't done a pass with the 707 in yet.

I just listened to the DI tracks now, just reamped them through POD Farm in my DAW. Really like that percussive nature of the 81-7s you're getting.

Cool. They were actually tracked while monitoring through PODFarm, so I guess you're hearing something fairly honest.

For what it's worth they are synched to a 130bpm tempo, with 1 bar of count-in. So if anyone is interested in doing drums and turning this into some kind of reamp-a-thon, I'm game! :)

Nice score man. I've got an 81-7 in the bridge of my hellraiser and I love it.

I got some 707's to replace the blackouts in my loomis too! :D

Hang on, you took the 707 out, put the 81-7 in, recorded it and now you'll go back and put the 707 back in to record again?
Double handling much? :p

Listening to the reamp by XeS, the clack seems to be gone.

Why my di`s ( recorded with the xt) are picking at -21 and yours are at -12 or something? Did you do something extra to them ?
This is weird :/

Interesting that tone is "muddy, sludgy and fat" to you.
I guess it's a matter of perception and taste. I listen to a lot of doom and drone stuff and some of the sludgier post metal, so that stuff makes EOH sound anything but muddy, sludgy, fat tone in comparison.

I realized not long after that I wouldn't be able to swap pickups without a restring. I can't physically get the pricks out of there and unplug them without the space to move...

So this will probably have to wait.

For the most part I'm digging the tightness, but the tone has lost something I loved about the 707s. That fat, loose, crushing vibe isn't quite there anymore.

Y'know what, Dan. When I get the Harley in (any day hopefully) you should bring over your Hellrasier and we'll do the pickup comparison that way. We'll just get new batteries for both of em to make sure its even ground and then just go sick and compare.
