I like SOAD but I hate their latest video. Guys in black riot gear with TV faces displaying messages like "BUY" and "GOD" crashing a party and enslaving the minds of teenagers? Does that REALLY happen? Or is it just, and this is only a suggestion, baseless anti-Establishment propaganda designed to further enslave the minds of nu-metal fans and "free" them into forming opinions based on emotional reactions rather than intellectual consideration? Or is it just a good way for four Armenians to make a killing from that old "I hate the Government because, uh, well, marijuana and war and stuff" teenage anarchist dollar? Probably a nice, lucrative mix of both.

Yes.....The End does stock a few
items. First it was The Darkness' album, then Slipnot's newest, 'With Teeth,' and now the new SOAD. I guess they sell, they've already had to restock 'With Teeth.'

Yeah, I do grow weary of SOAD's 'politicking.' The only song they ever wrote with a political message that meant something to me was "P.L.U.C.K."

Um, you guys do know that the band said it themselves that this album is supposed to be Darkthrone influenced right? I forgot exactly who, but it's true.

Is the reason why all you dislike SOAD because they claim to like the same bands as you, but then write music that sounds different? So Daron likes Black Metal, but that doesn't mean that the influence it has is what SOAD must sound like. If SOAD did a song that sounded just like Darkthrone it'd be crap & dishonest. At least they're being real to themselves, even if it comes across as contradictory at times (the whole anti-corporate thing while signing to Sony etc).
If there's any sort of a drama with SAOD, it's that they may be taking the piss out of their audience in 2005 by saying to think where your money goes, then putting out 2 CDs in the space of a year. The frist CD has 36 minutes of material on it. I scincerely hope the next part, "Hypnotize", will contain more than 44 minutes. Otherwise the buyer's been ripped off (the whole set could therefore fit onto a single CD). It would be indefensible if this happens for SOAD. Daron's already claimed that people would struggle to listen to the set in a single go. I've listened to their 4 albums back-to-back a couple of times now.

I respect but don't really like SoaD
I think what it comes down to is that there are only so many riffs that sound good, and some of those are really obscure and/or difficult. So in a large enough collection of music there are going to be identical riffs even if artists don't influence eachother at all.

I heard somewhere that the members of Immolation like Slipknot. Scott Ian from Anthrax likes almost everything. I'm certain they're not the only ones. So, yes, I agree with sretamwada's post.

Examples, you wasted sperm. They were examples. There are many more examples of bands playing very obscure music with very popular influences and popular favorites, neither of which affects the musicians' sound.

Just ENJOY the music! Just because Scott Ian's sold more CDs than you doesn't mean he's a sell out or a faker. It's because he writes music that a lot of people can relate to. Is that such a bad thing?
Also, why dislike Anthrax when your bloody pseudonym refers to them?
