TECH DEATH MIX FOR YOU TO TRY

Thanks for digging up the thread UnF, I found out this is a great way to practise my mixing. Nice heavy mix of yours, btw. So, after listening the other mixes, I decided to give this one a try too. I usually don't do deathcore stuff, so it was interesting to try.

I hope it's not too messy hehe, lots of stuff happening there. But since the playing is very tight, it helped.

A little late 'entry', so, for what it's worth. It was fun for me.

not a fan of those drums.. the kick is too boomy and the snare is too weak. the guitar have an interesting sound though which im enjoying, they should be louder in the mix and with a little more gain - at least on the parts where they are isolated

Thanks for the feedback!

I tried another version, hope you like it a little more.

The guitars haven't changed alot, since I would have to reamp then and I don't have the time now. I put them in louder though.

Still strugling with the drums though, I guess it's a learning process since I'm not used to such heavy full mixes.

I preffered the snare on the previous one you did, but this one is better overall IMO, great job!

Thanks man. :)

I think I like the snare more on the previous mix too, it's easier to cut through the mix with that one. It doesn't take alot of compression/clipping, and sounds more natural that way, which I like.

The thing i find extremely hard is mixing in vocals. Being the utter mixing noob I am, I have no Idea how to compress/EQ them. The growls always disappear in the mix while the screams fit in well actually.

I absoloutley suck at this stuff, but i'll have a whack at it anyway! :D

EDIT:

I used Amplitube, Some reaper EQ/Compressors and Superior Drummer 2.0 with my custom preset! :D

If you like the drums, i have them uploaded somewere on the Superior Drummer Preset thread.

I know, the cymbals need lowering, and maybe the bass drum, but i'll sort that later, its a crappy headphone mix aha! ;)

Attempt 2: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/33225359/Meditative 2.mp3

Attempt 2 has been mixed with different headphones and has had an EQ added to the whole track. The Cymbals have been lowered aswell! :D

Third and probably final attempt, I removed the EQ for the master track and added an Izotope CD Master setting instead! :)

Attempt 3: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/33225359/Meditative 3.mp3

i don't know what headphones you were using but this mix is all low end and nothing else. it sounds extremely muffled. i suggest using monitoring speakers or at least some normal speakers with a wider frequency range than your headphones. wish i could give you feedback on your drum setting but i can't hear them properly i'm affraid

God damn :( its some JVC Gummys :L and i used some Phillips Studio Headphones to mix some of it too.

The drums however, You Might be able to hear them on this:

i do have a studio computer and monitors, but, effort switching it over from one computer to the other :p and brothers using it to record a band at the moment.

Try using some like, in-ear headphones to hear it if you have any, or lower bass boosting on your Computer/Speakers if its enabled.

There is also a problem with my soundcard, which may be the problem too :(

forgot to add, i tried to make it more low end, because, the High-Gain, "Djent" tones people make today are a bit well, plain? :D

LOW END FTW!

Oh...my...fucking...god. WHAT A SONG. Mad props to you nevchrist. This is one of the best things i've heard all year.

I'm so going to try mixing this! While it's downloading though, (sorry for being OT) do you have a website where I can hear any more of your stuff?

Thank you very much! I should make a soundclick or something, my old myspace is out of action. I wrote this song for my old band, all my more recent stuff has been without that singer which is a real shame cos I liked his voice. I'm just finishing a song right now so I'll stick a link up here somewhere with a few others.

Yeah he does have a sick voice! Didn't need to add much post-"beef" to his voice at all, haha. Here's my mix (no solo yet, wanted to get the meat of the song down first) - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3730228/Meditative Mix 1.mp3

Do let me know what you think, it's my first time mixing anything this frantic, most of my stuff (and the metal bands I produce) are a lot slower and groove based, so getting punchy low end out of this track while not squashing everything to shit was quite the challenge!

I definitely plan to revisit this again for more practice, so any advice you'd have would be great.

Edit - that snare has come out awfully loud, I'll bring it down along with some top end, it's sticking out a bit annoyingly...
