Technical Death Metal

I just got Abyssal Throne and I question whether it's got much going for it that doesn't sound strangely recycled from earlier Sympathy stuff. But that's just once through.
Well, it does sound a lot like the other Sympathy stuff. But I still think it's good, because I like the other Sympathy stuff. :D
However, Sympathy's next two albums are being recorded with a full band, and one of the albums will go in a blackened death direction, so that should be different!

I'm listening to Crimson Massacre right now. That's some pretty tight stuff.

Yeah, I am looking forward to that. Jeff Lewis and that Into Eternity Drummer. Should be cool!

Have you heard Abolishment of Hate (Jeff Lewis' instru-death-metal release)? I haven't.

Monstrosity: imperial doom,millenium
Sentenced: north from here
Disincarnate: dreams of the carrion kind
At The Gates: the red in the sky is ours
Brutality: screams of anguish, when the sky turns black

It's Jim Austin. He is not in the band anymore though.

FUCK Greys...BRUTALITY - SCREAMS OF ANGUISH...SO UNDERRATED!!

No. Tim Roth or...Jim Austin. Yeah, I think it's Jim Austin.

Roth is guitar.

Bolognese is the drummer.

It's Jim Austin (yes, the former drummer for IE) who will be doing drums for Sympathy.

I heard them a while ago. I remember thinking it was pretty good stuff.

Atheist is probably my favorite tech death band. I see some people put Death in here. I didn't know they were classified as techdeath.

As for Necrophagist, I saw this on another forums. I like a few of their songs.

The worst death metal album I've heard? Probably Necrophagist's Epitaph. This band fails so much at death that it's hard to believe they're not just a really shitty parody band. They literally distilled everything wrong with death metal into a disgusting soup of overproduction and flowery guitar solos. It's just mindless technicality without any sort of message, ideology, spirit, soul, "it", whatever the fuck you call it. They don't have it. They can solo up and down the neck like Yngwie all day long, but don't go to this band for any kind of actual artistry. This band is fake.

Death metal didn't start out as a vehicle for technical displays; rather, good "tech death" bands like Atheist, Cynic, Demilich, and Gorguts use technicality as a means to an end. That end being, of course, a communication of the inevitability of mortality, the uselessness of the modern concept of individualism, and the foolishness of ideologies that promote a worldview contrary to reality. That is what death metal is about, whether one goes the way of Cynic in extolling a transcendental sense of oneness with the rest of the world, or one takes the Autopsy approach of glorifying death in all its forms as necessary, or one chooses the blasphemous route of Incantation and Immolation. What the hell is Necrophagist about? "Look at me! I can play fast! Goddammit, look at me! I deserve your attention!"

In short, fuck off Necrophagist.

I forgot some obvious ones like Anata, Psycroptic. Hehehehe...

Hey Nissan, you ever get that bass?

Yes sir, I did. I got the Yamaha 170 thing. In black :D

Why do you ask?

Does Defeated Sanity count as tech death?

Brutal techdeath. Same with Atheretic....

Defeated Sanity baby yea!

I always thought this was their least interesting, and that In Dark Purity had a lot more interesting and imaginitive riffs.

Gory Blister owns!

...and I will be checking out all the other bands you mentioned. Our tastes seem to overlap quite a bit.

Two of my favorites there...and I will also be checking out the other bands you mentioned.

YES, Sceptic!
