Tell me about these black metal bands

Whaaat? Markgugs has bought all that viking stuff and hasn't heard Bergthron?

Seriousy, the people who say they suck are MORANNS. "Jadgheim" is damn near great, excellent clean vocals and standout basslines over traditional viking heaviness. Trust the Dick on this one.

Ok, now tell me about these bands too!

1. AVENGER
2. BESTIAL WARLUST
3. BLUT AUS NORD

27. RESUSCITATOR
28. RIGER
29. SADORASS
30. SALTUS

30 is good for now. :tickled:

30. SALTUS

fairly decent NSBM. I like the Saltus/Legacy of Blood split the most, but I can't really be assed with the rest of their stuff, personally. Maybe you'll like them. Buy my copy of "Slavonic Pride"!

Slavonic Pride is the album I was looking to get/hear, actually. How much you want for it?

Concerning Haemoth:

I'd agree with that review.

Here's my expert opinion on these.

1. AVENGER - ?

2. BESTIAL WARLUST - ?

3. BLUT AUS NORD - Mother FUCK! This is THE BEST BM BAND ALIVE! I'm not kidding. Some fags around here will disagree, but even Gaykeeley thinks these guys are the cats tits. 'The Work Which Transforms God' is probably one of the best albums of the last 5 years. It is complete brilliance. Just absolute black hole metal. They are somewhat on the post-bm side of things, but I think you will still greatly appreciate their brilliance. AMAZING STUFF! This is a MUST, MUST, MUST, MUST, own. I didn't know you didn't have this; otherwise I would have gotten on your case a long time ago.

4. CRYPTIC WINTERMOON - ?

5. CULT OF DAATH - ?

6. DEATHSPELL OMEGA - GREAT band. Easily something you will like. One of the major up and coming BM bands of the last couple of years.

7. DUSK (Hungarian BM, not the doom band) - ?

8. EIKENSKADEN - ?

9. EMINENZ - ?

10. ENTHRAL - ?

11. ETHEREAL WOODS - ?

12. FROSTMOON ECLIPSE (Italian BM) - ?

13. HILLS OF SEFIROTH - ?

14. JUDAS ISCARIOT - ?

15. LEGION OF DOOM - ?

16. LUCIFUGUM - ?

17. LUGUBRUM - ?

18. MIASTHENIA - ?

19. MYRDDRAAL - a monster in Robery Jordan fantasy books, I think

20. MYSTIC FOREST - ?

21. NEHEMAH - Very good. Probably something you will like. Sort of related to In the Nightside era Emperor . . . at least Requiem Tenebrae is.

22. NERTHUS - ?

23. NUMEN - ?

24. RADIGOST - ?

25. RAGNAROK - ?

26. REALM OF CARNIVORA - ?

27. RESUSCITATOR - ?

28. RIGER - ?

29. SADORASS - ?

30. SALTUS - ?

[EDIT] I'll post some opinions tomorrow

While that is a great album, I think he should start with Memoria Vetusta I.

No. The Work Which Transforms God is where they really hit it off. That album is just MILES above and beyond anything else they've done. It is just the definition of a perfect album. PERFECT!

4. CRYPTIC WINTERMOON - Boring, not worth your time
14. JUDAS ISCARIOT - See Cryptic Wintermoon
21. NEHEMAH - Pretty solid French BM, quite raw stuff
25. RAGNAROK - "Nattferd" is one of the forgotten classics from the Norwegian second wave of BM, "Arising Realm" and "Diabolical Age" are also great. "Blackdoor Miracle" is pretty shit and derivative

Wow, thanks to you guys for the comments thus far. I've been pretty much just browsing bands I've never heard or heard of on metal-archives, and trying to D/L samples of all these bands off their websites and what-not; there's LOTS that sounds good to me!

@Ellestin: what's so damned funny?! :D

2. BESTIAL WARLUST
As the name implies: bestial war metal. Heard only two or three tracks looooooooong ago. All I can summon is it I didn't get into it at all, but then again at the time all I could swallow in terms of black metal pretty much revolved around Cradle of Filth and some Ancient

3. BLUT AUS NORD
Oh man, where do you want to start? As mentioned earlier, "Memoria Vetusta I - Fathers of the Icy Age" will quench your lust for vikingness and then some more, since it possesses a strong own personality, an empathy-arousing epic concept, out-of-this-world vocals, huge dragging-on leads and rhythmic guitars like a chainsaw (one riff in the legendary opening track "Slaughterday - The Heathen Blood of Ours" actually sounds like one). "The Mystical Beast of Rebellion" is pure relentless nihilism all the fucking way, it's a damn cobblestone to swallow in one shot. As for "The Work Which Transforms God"... Oh shit, read reviews.

6. DEATHSPELL OMEGA
They're being hyped around these days but, OMFG, do they deserve it... Started out as generic - but good - filthy BM, grew to becoming maybe the most technically proficient providers of tr00 gr1m underground art. "Si Monvmentvm Requires, Circvmspice" and then "Kénôse" are plain scary and tight as fuck, with some sequences of riffs you'll never get out of your head. You'll find some people around here to speak of buy-or-die masterpieces. I'm one of them.

8. EIKENSKADEN
Fun outlet from the Mystic Forest guy. Sounds a lot like his main band (although he fiercely denies it), except for the latest album "665.999", which has a more crafted and darker atmosphere with creepy Silent-Hillish interludes tying the songs together. Incidentally the only Eikenskaden album really worth owning IMO.

9. EMINENZ
Forget it right away, please. Goofy goth/black metal with silly melodies and keyboards straight out of a Warner Bros cartoon

14. JUDAS ISCARIOT
I'm not too qualified to talk about this objectively. I don't like it, but it has some dedicated following. I pass.

16. LUCIFUGUM
Once again heard only a few tracks now and then, sounded like a more death-metallish Astrofaes to me. I might get around to downloading some stuff...

20. MYSTIC FOREST
black metal with a twist. The guy does everything by himself and doesn't bother. at. all. with polishing the product. The music comes very intense and compressed, most of the time über-fast. What makes it really unique is the repeated and absolutely capable use of genre-alien instruments like the piano or the accordeon, which lend an interesting "romantic" scent to the tunes.

21. NEHEMAH
French Darkthrone. And better! *ducks*

28. RIGER
see Eminenz, only slightly less laughable. They sometimes sound like a mix of random gothic metal, Rammstein and bad Sepultura

I don't know where everybody gets the idea that Judas Iscariot has some kind of following. I think I've only ever heard people say they're derivative, boring, etc. At the very least, I think I'm their only fan on UM.

I've read good opinions. Lots of. Mostly in the German press. Akenathen lives in Germany by the way, in Nüremberg (or used to a couple years ago)
