The Annual Cryptic Roster Clue Post...

Quite honestly I think of Epica as just a rehashed version of After Forever.
The part I most prefer is the Mark Jansen's grunting and he's the ex-After Forever guitarist/grunter who created Epica. Would much rather have After Forever over Epica even though Invisible Circles was a bit dissapointing as an album. However, I can't stand a song on Consign To Oblivion, Epica's newer album. It seems Simone Simons totally changed her way of singing and it went from being a nice touch to something I'd prefer not to hear. And Mark's grunting has all but dissapeared. I'd like Phantom Agony more if it didn't seem like they totally relied on the orchestration to create their sound. All the guitar parts sound the exact same from song to song.
Still, on anyday Estranged > any Epica song.

lol. I had a conversation with a friend about this after I finally listened to Epica because someone at a concert told me The Phantom Agony blew any Nightwish album out of the water. I was going on & on about how much it just reminded me of After Forever so it started me on an AF listening binge (I hadn't listened to them in a few months at that point) and this was before I even knew about Mark Jensen. My exact words were "They sound like After Forever to me with Tarja singing instead of Floor" (ah the beauty of trillian)

Have to agree. Listening to "Consigned to Oblivion" right now, and it sounds like a poor man's After Forever.

I would love to see After Forever at PP. I would also love to see Floor in my hotel room after the show... but I digress.

Pretty cool. I dig the vocalist. Is the the 4 song EP the only thing they have out? Is it readily available? Thanks.

Zod
As of today the 4 song EP is all there is, but i talked with someone who said they are searching for a Record company to distribute so there is more in the mill. I dig the vocalist also, its a different form of vocalist than we have seen in the POWER genre.

I fully agree. Aside for the hotel room part as I'd have some explaining to do to my boyfriend. Well.. then again.. it could be to party as opposed to what you're thinking ;P The Phantom Agony is a good album. Just not the spectacular thing I was told it was. I can't listen to Consigned to Oblivion all the way through. I also skip about half the songs on The Phantom Agony.
Pretty sure After Forever has yet to have it's US debut.
And I totally missed the release of an After Forever album in 2005. *runs off*
hm.. So far a much better album than Invisible Circles which had some really nice songs but the concept album attempt just didn't do anything for me.

I prefer "Invisible Circles". Though I agree that the concept, and especially the spoken work parts, are silly.

Glenn, answer me this and tell me if i'm wrong but; If the 4th and 5th slot were both 90 mins in the past why would it be considered moving up a slot if Evergrey played the 5th slot. It's the same time length you just get to hear "so and so" headline.

The 5th slot is not 90 minutes. It hasn't been for three years as I advertise it as "till close." The headline bands are offered a minimum of 90 minutes and a max of 120 minutes. It's up to the bands how long they perform as I don't hold them to anything publically. I was hoping that Angra could have gone on another 20 minutes while Strat pretty much went the 120.

Glenn H.

P.S. I answered this question because it is a legitimate question for all 4th slot bands that could move up, not just Evergrey.

I'm impressed with Floor Jansen, she is a beautiful girl and very very tall ! (around 6 feet), she is nice but not so friendly like Simone Simons, But she have a lot of charisma on stage, and sing like an angel, great presence and great voice.. She is Sanders Grommans' girlfriend (after forever guitarrist).. arrgh!

After Forever will play a gig next december the 22th with Orpheus Orchestra
in Tilburg (Netherlands)

Part 1 ORPHEUS
Orchestra Orpheus will play 6 songs. These songs were very important in the history of Rock.

Part 2 AFTER FOREVER
Enter
Come
Boundaries Are Open
Living Shields
No Control
Attendance
Follow in the Cry
The Final Countdown

Part 3 AFTER FOREVER together with ORPHEUS
Childhood in Minor
Beautiful Emptiness
Beyond Me
My plegde of Allegiance #1
Intrinsic
Through Square Eyes
Eccentric
Forlorn Hope
Being Everyone
Monolith of Doubt

sounds interesting... perhaps we can expect a DVD of this show :headbang:

Epica definately sounds like an After Forever knock-off, but I don't think they are any less than AF. They're a bit different though. I really like Consign to Oblivion. Then again, I was not trying to compare it to any AF album, or anything else. IMO, it's just a good album.

I didn't like Invisible Circles either. Decipher is incredible though. Maybe Glenn is gonna have AF, Epica, Leaves' Eyes, and Within Temptation. It could be a pre-Evil Darkness tour. :p

Thanks, well crap I never knew that.

From what I've heard, so far, from both After Forever (some) and Epica (a little), I'd be happy for either or both bands to be playing PP! I'll have to listen to more of both bands before I form an opinon as to which band and vocalist is better. Can anyone recommend which After Forever and Epica albums I should start with, to hear their best? I did get AF's Invisible Circles, while at PPV. I became a Floor Jansen fan when she sang for Star One and Aryeon, and so far I can say that I like her best when with Arjen. Also, I'd like either/both Simone Simmons or Floor Jansen (no sloppy seconds after Zod though :yuk: ) back to my hotel room. :D

Returning bands:
Balance Of Power (would be nice), Nightingale (very underrated), Evergrey (no thanks), Silent Force (would be nice), Threshold (would be frigging awesome), Gamma Ray (hey, you never know!), Pagan's Mind (see Threshold), Mercenary (see Evergrey), Secret Sphere (doubt it, but perhaps a chance to redeem themselves), Vanden Plas (would give my left nut for a longer set)

U.S. debuts:
Freedom Call (would be cool, a butt-ton of requests for them), Firewind (another one with a butt-ton of requests, would be absolutely crescent fresh), Andromeda (another left nut band for me), Freak Kitchen (see Andromeda), Labyrinth (see the last two), Loch Vostok (have yet to hear them), Sieges Even (I don't think that would be counted as a reunion), At Vance (see Freedom Call), Blaze (why is he never considered?), Dragonforce (I don't know how long I could handle them), Iron Fire (would be cool, but I doubt it), Iron Savior (see Firewind), Metalium (left nut again, where's the demand?), Nostradameus (would be cool), Pegazus (see Nostradameus), Royal Hunt (could it finally happen?), Running Wild (see Royal Hunt), Shaaman (I wish!), Thunderstone (see Freedom Call), White Skull (see Iron Fire)

I hope that narrows it down a bit.

Stay metal. Never rust.

Hi Glenn,

Just wanted to remind you that Icarus Witch would be happy to come down to Atlanta & rock the Prog Power stage on behalf of the rising U.S. power metal scene. We've had such great response to the fans the past 2 years attending your event with the number one question being: "When is Icarus Witch going to play Prog Power?"

We've got radio playing Capture The Magic across North America, features coming in Brave Words, Metal Maniacs, Pit, Unrestrained, Explicitly Intense & more and a video & tour on the way, so 2006 will be a big year for the Witch.

Feel free to contact me any time: info@icaruswitch.com

Cheers,

I'll have to post a pic later in my IW shirt ha!

Come play some shows in MA will ya! Have you tried the Palladium in Worcester MA?

Keep up the good work, and hopefully will get to see you guys live sometime. :headbang: :headbang:

Epica: The Phantom Agony (they only have 2 albums & 1 instrumental thing I just found out about)
After Forever: Decipher (5 albums & EPs to choose from)
