Starcraft was mentioned a couple of times actually. I agree about the comments on Oblivion, the vanilla version was absolutely awful.
Most of the best video games PC-wise are all older ones. There hasn't been many great games over the past few years.
I've played most of recent games over the years but there aren't many that I can say I really enjoyed, let alone are part of the best video games ever. Companies are getting very sloppy and creating unfinished, buggy games (Gothic 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. + Expansion), or are completely re-hashing and ruining old classics (Command and Conquer, C&C Red Alert). Nothing really original nowadays.

Maybe the best post so far for mentioning Half-life, Fallout, System Shock 2, Grim Fandango, Thief and Diablo.
Lately I've been playing HL², Portal, Team Fortress 2, BioShock(which is nearly as good as SS2) and soon I plan on trying The Witcher.

I like your taste. All of these games have kept me occupied for hours on end. I remember getting The Sims for Christmas in the fifth grade and playing it from the time I woke up, until I went to sleep for almost a month.
I'm glad I only ever went through something like that once.I would like to add in some others I've been addicted to in the past:

Need for Speed: Underground (PS2)
Mario World (N64)
And my all-time fave would have to be the Tony Hawk series. I don't play them too often anymore, but I used to get those games as soon as they came out and play them all the time with my friends and brother. I'd say I've spent more time on those than any other game.
