So the Dead Can Dance concert was amazing. It was the Gibson theatre, which is inside of Universal Studios. Talk about the most ironic place to see a band like Dead Can Dance! However, the venue itself had phenomenal sound. Had real good seats; 8th row of the orchestra.
Both vocalists were excellent, but Lisa Gerrard has the best voice I've ever heard in person, opera singers included. They basically played their entire new album; after hearing it live I appreciate it much more. "All in Good Time" and "The Return of the She-King" were highlights. Of their older material "Host of the Seraphim" and the "Ubiquitous Mr. Love Groove" stood out. Gerrard also did a song off her first solo album that was just stunning. The percussion players were all really engaging to watch as well.
There were a few downsides. First, I wish they had a few more live instruments. The music would sound better if they had real strings and horns instead of synths. That said, I realize that's a major financial commitment. The real problem were the fans. First, way too many people shouting for old songs; I get that some people bought tickets expecting to hear more classics, but at some point you need to accept that the band is going to play what they want to play and just shut the fuck up.
I also had some drunk fucker in front of me recording the show, with flash on his phone, who kept swinging his arms right in front of myself and my friend. I eventually had to curse him out and tell him to put the camera away. In general I am so fucking sick of people trying to make shitty bootlegs at concerts and ruining the show for everyone else. If you're determined to make a bootleg, have some manners and make sure you're not ruining the show for everyone else by blocking their view with a camera in their view, a light in their face, etc.
Anyway, in spite of some stupid fans the band did three encores. A really great show and I highly recommend that anyone who even just slightly likes DCD go to one of their shows.
Probably seeing Peter Murphy tonight. His last album was solid and he usually plays a few Bauhaus classics, so it should be fun.

Saw Gorguts last week. Was fucking amazing, never been to such an insane metal show, was headbanging like a nutter the entire time they were on. Got a sick t shirt and chatted to Luc Lemay for a bit, and he's a killer dude. The local support bands weren't shit either so thats another bonus.

Saw Swans last night. It was probably the heaviest show I've ever been to. More importantly, this group is just at such a creative high point right now and it's just amazing to experience in person. Just amazing. The Seer and The Apostate both came across excellently in a live setting and their performance of Coward was a pleasant surprise.
Just got back from Korpiklaani, Moonsorrow, Tyr, Metsatoll, and Helsott. I'd like to say it was the best concert I've been too (possibly tied with Iced Earth in '10, I think it was). I actually was only going for Moonsorrow and wasn't even sure about attending, but every band truly was excellent, Ville came up and sang Happy Little Boozer with Korpiklaani. The only thing that could have made it better would be if it were in a Tavern instead of the Whiskey and the drinking age were 18 in the US like it is in the rest of the world. Anyway, great concert, great bands; folk metal concerts are epic.

Pallbearer was excellent last night, except there was this one wobbly drunk guy that was killing the mood. How he didn't fall down was amazing. Some girl eventually got tired of his antics & drug him out of there, I think it was his gf. Royal Thunder was pretty cool live as well. Both bands did a collaboration at the end & it was pretty amazing. It was like 25 minutes or so. Samothrace sadly dropped off the tour, but I didn't know that until last night, so I was a little bummed about that.

I skipped out on that Pallbearer show. My funds wouldn't allow it and I'd rather spend my money seeing Saint Vitus in a few weeks. They were wonderful at Rites of Darkness. I expect to see a lot from them in the future.

Got free tickets to go see Kamelot next week...Typically I wouldnt go to this show, its not my cup of tea, but hey its free and I havent been to a show since MDF this year. So Im stoked... (kinda)

Saw Immolation on Saturday night, they absolutely blew me away. Totally flawless live, Ross Dolan's voice in particular was possibly better than the album recordings. Highlights were 'Mjesty and Decay' and especially 'No Jesus, no Beast' whic half the crowd were chanting on the way out of the venue, hah

Saw Cannibal Corpse with Psycroptic supporting the other night. Psycroptic shat all over CC imo. CC sounded like white noise with Fisher barking over it. For an hour and a half. He's looking quite bizarre these days also. I think he's slowly morphing into nothing but a giant neck.
