Do you hate these type of concerts?

i concur

did i ever mention the time when i saw opeth and this guy was moshing on his own just bashing into people, then when the band came out for the demon of the fall encore all these guys walked up from the back and got him in a headlock and started punching the shit out of him. that owned.

The idea is for the support act to get the exposure of metallica fans, not for metallica to draw a bigger crowd.

Oh god damn it dude, that's so not true. I went to see Metallica with Kid Rock & Linkin Park & there were people there to see the supporting bands, not Metallica. I'm sure there were plenty of people at that show to see Slipknot.

no  there were like 8 kids that were "hardcore dancing" and there were about 5 of us and 2-3 other random guys on our side

OK, then what if the next time you & your friends go to a show you all get your asses kicked by a bunch of kids who are hardcore dancing because you & your crew aren't hardcore dancing? How would that make you feel?

One of my friends told me she was at an Opeth show and there were preppy girls there grinding! That was a mindfuck for me... I mean, of all the metal concerts to grind to, Opeth would probably be the very last one on my list.

If those people hadn't been there they would have been replaced by Metallica fans, though. Metallica can sell out a show by themselves.
Perhaps another example: Iron Maiden's recent tour with Lauren Harris. How many fans do you think Lauren Harris brings? FUCKING NONE.
Opening acts are put there not to bring in more people but to give them exposure and make the show longer so that they can charge more for tickets.

Damnation brings in the pussy. Case closed.

But, shit, when I go to a rap concert I don't mosh. I'm more suprised about them being able to grind to Opeth than I am about them being there... I'm not quite sure how that would work. :)

if they have no idea what they should be doing they revert to what they know, in this case grinding. It's like how metalheads might not know what to do at a rap concert and just start headbanging.

I have no problem with opening acts. In fact, sometimes the band I'm there to see is the opening back to the closing band. What' makes me mad though is sometimes good opening bands play for a short amount of time because some crappy band gets up there for a half hour and wastes everyone's time. I've learned and got to know good bands before live that I would never have heard before. But we don't need a music festival at a club, that's what music festivals are for.
