The concerts thread

So I saw Nile last night...and holy mother of Christ did they fucking KICK ASS! I saw Behemoth a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by their performance, but this...this is on a whole new level! I know I will never ever miss a Nile performance from now on.

So many UK tours on at the moment- last week, saw Anaal Nathrakh (awesome) at one venue then left to see Fu Manchu at another. Last night was Orange Goblin supporting Saint Vitus, tonight is Municipal Waste, next Monday is a Kataklysm/ Decapitated double header with Man Must Die in support, and I've got tickets for Lamb Of God and Fear Factory gigs later in the month.

Pornogrind these days haha, didn't dig further than Jig-Ai myself, but they kick ass!

I've seen some amazing concerts over the years.

Seeing Motley Crue in Japan in fall 2008 was surreal and fascinating, but too tame for my liking.

The most disappointing live band I've encountered was easily Cradle of Filth but that's hardly surprising.

Goatwhore are not generally a favorite but Ben Falgoust is a fantastic frontman who really knows how to work a bored crowd.

I think I might go to see this:
Tue Apr 13 06:30 PM
• Finntroll
• Moonsorrow
• Swallow the Sun
• Survivors Zero
But, really just wanting to see Moonsorrow. I don't know. It all depends. I really want to see them live.

Yeah, it is probably going to be pretty rad there. Swallow the Sun is pretty neat. I'm mainly going to see Moonsorrow. This concert will hopefully start my year right with concerts. I have not been to one in so long and I am pretty excited to go see this. And Finntroll will be something interesting with Moonsorrow. I have not really heard to much of Survivors Zero, but I will do my research.

I am going to Wacken this summer if my friends in Munich can finagle a discounted or free ticket. That's $2000 just for airfare. Better start liking instant miso soup packets with plain rice.

Saw Skeletonwitch tonight with Howl, Iron Age, and Megasus supporting. For some reason (inexplicable, really), Doomriders were headlining, but I left before their set (because it was past midnight and I'd already earned myself a severe bangover). Megasus were kind of meh, some cool grooves but I wasn't really impressed. Howl were fucking badass, no question. Heavy fucking doom parts, badass riffs, and just generally cool, plus they had great stage presence. Iron Age more or less sucked. Skeletonwitch were, as expected, fucking awesome, and the crowd went nuts. Got myself the Howl EP and a shirt, the latest Doomriders album, and a Skeletonwitch zip-up hoodie with the name on the front and sleeves and the cover of At One With The Shadows on the back. It's occurring to me now that I'll never be able to wear it anywhere except shows...woops.

I also snagged Skeletonwitch's setlist. It was taped up to a speaker hanging from the ceiling, pretty high up. I could barely reach it. There were some girls next to me, and as I grabbed it they grabbed at my arm to try to take it, but I yanked free. Why do these dumb bitches think that just because they're (incredibly slutty-looking) girls they have more right to the fucking setlist, which they couldn't have gotten for themselves? They proceeded to talk to each other about what a dick I was for a couple minutes. Women shouldn't be allowed at metal shows unless they commit to having sex with the band.

Anyhow, the setlist (which was pretty much perfect):

Submit to the Suffering
Upon Wings Of Black
The Despoiler of Human Life
Crushed Beyond Dust
Fire From The Sky
Limb From Limb
Repulsive Salvation (the thrash break in this was FUCKING INSANE)
Sacrifice For The Slaughtergod
Where The Light Has Failed
Remains Of The Defeated
Soul Thrashing Black Sorcery
Beyond The Permafrost
Strangled By Unseen Hands
Blinding Black Rage

and I was just about to say that I would have wanted to hear Baptized in Flames and Vengeance Will Be Mine but I'm looking at the setlist and those are listed here at the bottom...they just didn't have time to play them because for some reason they were support. I wish they'd swapped out Stangled By Unseen Hands and Remains of the Defeated for those two, though.
