The Decade In Review

Well I'm not a huge fan of death core and not a fan of nu metal, but I'd say they aren't going anywhere, if anything, they're increasing in popularity.

People who don't even like metal have been brought into it through Nu metal and Industrial metal and gradually come to like it.

Death core has got a lot more chicks into the death and metal scene I've noticed.

If we were to guess at what the most important and influential releases of the decade will be, I think these would be a good starting point:

Blut Aus Nord: The Work Which Transforms God
Primordial: The Gathering Wilderness
Negura Bunget: Om / 'N Crugu Bradului
Agalloch: The Mantle / Ashes Against the Grain
Deathspell Omega: Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice / Fas
Alcest: Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde
Wormed: Planisphaerium
maybe a Xasthur album? I don't think they're that great, but depressive BM has been a massive trend this decade and I don't know who would be more influential than them.
The real emergence of modern blackened death would probably be embodied by something like Arghoslent's Incorrigible Bigotry

I would be interested to see what others would add to this list.

My list looks quite like yours:

Agalloch - The Mantle
Nagelfar - Virus West
Windir - 1184
Primordial - To the Nameless Dead
Summoning - Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame
Shining - V: Halmstad
Alcest - Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde
Drudkh - Can't decide which album I like the most...
Dornenreich - Her von Welken Nächten
Enslaved - Below the Lights
Blut Aus Nord - TWWTG (though I bet the new one will take its place as favourite BaN album...)

Not many Dornenreich fans around here. Clearly not well known enough to be influential I wouldn't have thought, but still good to see someone mention them. I love Bitter ist... especially.

Death core has got a lot more chicks into the death and metal scene I've noticed.

Here in cold frostbitten Norway, the metalcore\deathcore scene is almost non-existing. I think it matter alot where in the world you are, but that scene has just started to grow here in Norway within the last year. There are only like 4-5 american "core" bands playing here each year So I guess thats the reason why it has taken some time to raise a fan base here. When it comes to chicks and metal, I think its allright that they stick to the melodic metal scene, no offence but girls who are listening to extreme metal is just...so manly and lesbian in my opinion.

You'd be surprised how many sexy and "girly" chicks here listen to grind like all day long. But yeah, this country is infected with good grind.

Also, frostbitten Norway is cool as fuck.

I have yet to meet a sexy chick who are listening to extreme metal here, but maybe there are some in the right country. If I want a hot chick here, I just need to go to an In Flames gig.

Wait they listen to grind:OMG:Even if I don't like grindcore that still better than what most sexy chicks listen to in this country.

Yep. However, I know 0 czech people that listen to oldschool death metal or have at least half as good taste in these things as I have. :)

Except Pale Folklore was released in 1999, and its style is pretty similar to The Mantle, which was the album that really broke for Agalloch. I think Ashes Against the Grain is more original than Pale Folklore anyway. Pale Folklore drew quite heavily on Ulver's Bergtatt, whereas Ashes is basically a whole new creature.

I agree on the second part, but Pale Folklore and The Mantle really aren't that similar stylistically.

I've met beautiful girls who were into grind core and moshing, but I totally agree with the lesbian image of women listening to certain types of metal.

@ WAIF:
There were only three other mentions of band member's death and you said in a previous post that you weren't talking about them, so that only leaves me..

And just for clarification, I assume you have never heard Across the Horizon by Utumno? Otherwise such an irresponsible comment would not have been made

I was referring to Xorv's post, actually. And I've heard a couple songs off it; honestly they didn't impress me that much, but even if just pressing play on the thing would teleport whores and cocaine into my room it still wouldn't be worth the prices I've seen it going for when it's going at all.

ALL IN SATAN!

The readers of Aftonbladet, the biggest newspaper in Sweden and Scandinavia, have named IN FLAMES' "Come Clarity" the best Swedish album of the past decade. The LP received 26 percent of all votes. You Heard it here! LOL

If I had to pick a Swedish album of the decade it be Opeth's Blackwater Park.

I can understand all the hate but aren't we missing the big point here?

In Flames actually beat bands like Kent in a nationwide poll?! If you are Swedish you know exactly how weird that is to hear! I mean Runk, I haven't been in Sweden for a couple of years now but seriously?? Last time I visited, Kent and Bo Kaspers Orkester ruled the whole country with an iron fist
