Its hard to imagine what *good* metal could possibly sound like 40-50 years from now. Anyone have any ideas? What would the themes focus on? Surely every topic has been covered by now.. hasn't it?

Just pretty much more electronically influenced in other words. But I think there may also be more brutal, darker, progressive, and technical aspects.

I think we'll have a greater understanding of all the elements that make metal what it is today. And therefore there will be even more subgenres.

I'm wondering if in the future, some middle eastern countries will be liberated from oppressive theocracies, and therefore bring a shit ton of new material to the table. Also, Asia's metal scene is still largely untapped.

I don't think metal will be a very active genre of music 50 years from now.

I don't think people will bother making 'futuristic' music. I mean a lot of 80s pop was an attempt at that. Now that there have been so many different styles or rock music I suspect people will just borrow bits and bobs from older stuff and put there own spin on it.

The liberal agenda and Islam will come together to make it illegal for white people to play heavy metal.

That would be funny if lickshits like Gadafi didn't actually target metal heads.
