The Gaming Thread

^yeah ie only recently started playing them actually:D, so this is my 2004

but i completely see your point. i tried a few "realistic" games but none of them are the full package. there was one for ps3 that was good but no buildings explode and the levels are huge with no enemies , sniper ghost warrior or something looked good for air affecting bullets, but it was only snipers.

i feel sometimes that i am the only person who has never modified a PC game

i dont know the first thing about programming or anything though too haha

For most games you don't need to understand code whatsoever, you just need to look at a few files in the games and look for connecting factors...I taught myself quick how to follow the basics back with with Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2.

sounds cool actually:D

got donkey kong country returns (fucking awesome)
muramasa (wii, also great)
suikoden 3 (starts off good, i wish i had 2 so i could import my data)
saints row 2 - havent tried but looking forward to it

Hehe, changing the chainguns projectiles to concussive rounds, making landmines look like Sam & Max etc. There was no end to the goofy fun that could be achieved.

Replaying Dragon Age Origins and its dlc / expansion. Going my typical route of being a spell caster this time around.

yeah when i got a new PC i tried mass effect 1 and 2 plus dragon age, loved em

although mass effect 1 and 2 arent quite as good as people make them out to be, those sidequests, ugh (go to generic planet #18568956809356 to find 6 guys to shoot)
and how about the second one and its like..........8 weapons total:p

still great though

The only thing I disliked about mass effect was the rooms that all looked so similar, and how you knew you were going to fight due to debris in a room you could take cover behind. Loved everything else about the second one, I'm hoping they keep it as is and don't listen to rpg loyalist that complained about the removal of items stats inventory etc, and keep pushing it further in the story rich, interchangeable events from the players choice with the 3rd mass effect, and leave all the textbook rpg stuff to dragon age 2.

good call actually, id be cool with that, keeps them sorta seperate franchises while perfecting both sides of the coin

neverwinter nights 2 on steam, bought it, now i can finally find out what all the fuss is about :p

Exactly. I don't understand why people get so upset about them abandoning the 'tried and true' method with Mass Effect 2. Sure, the combat plays more like a Gears of War game than an rpg, but it still has its own separate identity, and personally I don't like relying on dice rolls for hits in an game involving guns(this is the one thing that bugged me about fallout 3 and new vegas over the glitches). The game is still very much an RPG, and on top of it they're striking some truly awesome and new ground with the imports of previous games saves to completely change the world around the player.

I still love all the classic RPG stuff, and I feel its implanted well in Dragon Age, while still toppling new ground.

It comes down to, as someone who has played RPGs a good portion of my life, I've gotten tired of applying the same overall formula to every entry in the genre, and I'm excited to see newer games break away from it, yet still having a few great games embracing it.
