The Gaming Thread

Well I have played Skyrim. So far it's pretty damn awesome, although I have not got far enough in to truly take the game in. It's got the Elder Scrolls feel I know and love and I'm psyched to really sink my teeth into the game. I assume I'll completely ignore the main stroy like I always do and get lost in the mythos and random shit in game. I'm also loving the Nordic setting, I've been dying to see an Elder Scrolls game set in Skyrim and it's everything I hoped for and more. The landscape and World Design is absolutely an upgrade from Oblivion which was rather plain and unchanging when it came to scenery

If I have one complaint and I'm sure everyone saw this coming, it's the menus. I really don't like them, and that's not just the PC snob speaking I really tried to look past it. I went into the game knowing it would be dumbed down even more than Oblivion but these menus need a re-designing on PC, it's so slow and un-intuitive, not to mention the navigation keys are fucking goofy.

Press TAB to exit?? What? And if I hit inventory key while in inventory it doesn't simply exit(like most games), it makes me view my items in 3D view which is distracting and slows me down. Every single time I am in inventory I end up looking at the 3D view of my equipment because I'm pressing the inventory button trying to exit.

I'm hoping a patch will allow me to re-bind all the menu keys properly

Besides this one problem I already know I'll love this game and it's going to eat up the rest of my night when I'm done typing this. See ya'll in a week

^you get used to it. i am loving this game, so much to do

i found a nice exploit for smithing. just get like 1500$, buy iron ingots and leather, then make leather hats and iron daggers to your hearts content, sell it back and buy more supplies. afterall you get the same experiance points for an iron dagger as you do for an elvan sword, so stick to the cheap stuff. i gained from like level 50-60 just now for about 700$

also, not sure if serious alteredmind, but uncalled for if so :erk:.

Agreed.

I just snuck up behind a skeleton, and shot it with my awesome bow for x3 damage and it fell apart (as they tend to do)...then it's skull rolled over a pressure plate and triggered a trap that lit the entire hallway on fire as I crept calmly back into the tunnel I came from.

Baller.

Skyrim boring, bugged and mainstream.

I agree completely; Twenty minute dragon fights and thousands of quests tied into an immersive storyline lead to a generally boring experience, and if you combine that with the fact that the game caters to most play styles...ugh.

As for the bugs, I'm positive you could make a better game of equal or greater scope with your extensive knowledge and team of professionals....and it would probably take less than five years too :)

And the fact that a bunch of other people like it make it less appealing to me overall because I'm the intellectual equivalent of a toddler throwing a tantrum, and I can't like something if I know that other people like it too.

Maybe this game isn't for me.

Well I continue playing Skyrim and this damn interface is getting worse and worse. I'm considering putting the game down until it's fixed(likely by modders), I can't deal with these retarded menus. Everything I try to do just breaks another part of the menu. I currently can't even drop items because I tried to change my "sheath weapon" key to my side mouse button (something I do in every game I play), and that happens to break the ability to drop items, so now I'm over-encumbered and can't drop items.

This is the latest in a long list of bad design choices. Fuck it's a great game but everything takes 3 times longer to do than it should because the menu's are not intuitive and buggy. I miss Morrowind now:(. Now THAT was a sweet menu system, inventory was an open graphical design that let you see/select everything in one diablo-like screen, the map/character sheet/skill sheet/inventory were all little windows you could see at the same time, and could stretch and move around screen to work best for you.

Sexy Morrowind Gui, I can see every important piece of info and change anything in seconds(including window sizes or if they even appear):

And Skyrim. It looks kinda pretty, but talk about slow and un-informative.

I will now stop bitching, because so far this is the only true problem (albeit a big one)

Ah, irony much.

Oh, so what can i say about the game that has shit interface and:

After 41 minutes (yes) of playing i escaped the execution and dragon, became a friend for everybody, had really important mission in the city, for which i am now superhero, i have the greatest title Jarl can offer me, ive killed the dragon and it turns out im something that havent been seen for centuries. A Dragonborn, oh oh.

SO ORIGINAL AND SO FAST TAKE MY MONEY BETHESDA.

And interface is probably screwed up because the game was made for consoles similtiunously (this word sucks to write). I will never pay for a game that is made for PC and consoles at the same time. Witcher 2 was fantastic, first, they made a game for pc gamers and then took care of console players.

And wtf, i forgot to reply to that, twenty minutes dragon fight?!
I killed this shit from the tower with arrows in 1 minute, and this bastard didnt even spot me.

Oh, one more thing!

I can cast spells, im super dragonborn, i can wear eveyrthing, i can fight with everything im super hero.

But i cant fight from the horse : ( Seriously, what the fuck?

WHAT?!?! That's crazy that you killed it in one minute with help from six people...especially since it's the first dragon in the game and is there mainly to fuel the storyline. I can't see how that would be any different than fighting a much harder one on your own twenty levels later -_-

I form all my opinions within 45 minutes of starting a 200 hour rpg.

If you completely hate the game don't play it. Besides interface Skyrim still makes most recent RPG's look like a joke. It's sad modders always have to step in to fix these games but you're basically writing off teh whole game as unoriginal and shitty. I hate to tell you but basically every single game is unoriginal, it's how well it's presented.

As for mainstream.... What the hell are you on? Stick to Indie games then, but stay away from successful ones, those are too mainstream.

I would rather be a peasant whole game than became a special superhero killing dragons after 40 minutes of the game. That just sucks. I think ill just play some Tibia, at least there on lvl4 i wont kill a dragon.

Yeah, games with a budget are stupid.

Fuck this, I'm going to go play Farmville.
