Ron Paul walks amongst us.

I believe in a spiritual deity that oversees my existence. Organized religion is shit. Been there done that.

Edit- I have no animosity towards the Christians who attended that church. Frankly, they were some of the most genuinely good hearted people I ever had the pleasure of acquainting myself with. I simply don't believe that you need a middle man in your quest towards spiritual enlightenment.

Currently listening to God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens at work. It's excellent so far.... He isn't obnoxious in the least, he's actually incredibly dignified and presents everything in a very thought out and semi-unaccusing manner. In fact I find his voice to be extremely soothing and even if I did believe in God I'd listen to him in earnst. I recommend this to everyone here.

edit: Peters you just became Atheist 6months ago. You have not even recieved your degree yet let alone be qualified as militant. :|

So you've read it? What about it makes it "not a very good book"?

My friend Colleen read it before me and said it was excellent, very up to date and concise. What is your reasoning?

I don't believe in any defined version of a "higher power" at all. I believe in the possibility of forces that can't be explained, but am more than willing to believe that those forces are scientific and not conscious in nature. That said, I'm not willing to completely dismiss the possibility of a conscious force either.

It's difficult to accept something from nothing, or at the same time an infinite beginning that was just always there with no purpose rhyme or reason. I don't believe I'm capable of understanding the true nature of things, scientific or otherwise.

Based on the poll choices, I suppose all that makes me an Agnostic more than anything else. I don't like saying I believe in a "higher power", just the "impossible to understand" nature of the infinity of everything.

Nice to see you Cara.

I agree with this, the problem is, the poll is about gods. I don't beleive in those. I do believe that we can't truly understand everything, and that there could be unexplainable (at least for the present) things out there.

I do not believe in energies, spirits, gods or powers, or that they give a rats ass about us, or know that we exist, unless it turns out we are some fucked up experiment.

Right, and to that point I'm there with you.

If I absolutely had to give a yes or no answer, I'd give no as well. But that's based on human concepts of religion, energies, spirits, gods, conscious powers, etc. Any human explanation I've ever heard for any of these things just seems silly, no matter what it is - even if one of them is somehow accurate.

Sometimes I ponder that possiblity - experiment, accident, mission, alone in the universe, specs of dust in the grand scheme of everything, no scheme whatsoever, etc. Nothing ever makes total sense, but that also doesn't mean it's definitely not true either. Hell, the blackness of the universe could actually be the inside of one being's body and we're the equivalent of cells inside cells and mean infinitely less than we ever thought possible. Does that sound silly? Of course it does. Since I don't believe we're capable of understanding it, I'm guessing the actual explanation would sound just as silly, even if it simply boils down to X + Y = Z.

I often describe myself as an atheistic agnostic. That, however, seems to confuse the shit out of people so I usually just go with agnostic like I did in this poll. I don't think it's possible to know if a god exists or not but I seriously fucking doubt there is.
