I saw ROTK yesterday and was blown away.
It completes the trilogy perfectly. Peter Jackson was able to do what Lucas and Coppola couldn't.
Just see it for yourself. It's truly an epic and there won't be another movie, or movies like this in our lifetimes.

Hell yeah. I'm watching it Saturday twice.
I liked Godfather 3. To me, the ending fit so perfectly. I even called it. I thought it'd be the perfect ending, watching Michael's rise and fall.

I liked Godfather 3 too, but apparently you, me and my immediate family are the only ones. :)

I sooo can't wait for Saturday.

This was the most uneven of the three movies. The plot kind of meandered in a few places, most notably when dealing with Denethor and Faramir. It distracted from the actual story, didn't forward the plot at all, and just came across as being really silly. There is a mild spoiler coming up, so if you haven't seen the movie yet, you may want to stop reading. For some reason, Peter Jackson decided not to deal with the fate of Saruman at all. It just seemed really odd to not show someone who so far had been a pretty major character, and it all just plain sucks to leave out Christopher Lee.
Also, it seemed Peter Jackson really did not how to end this movie. The 'ending' took up about the last half hour. I'm just nitpicking, though. The movie is honestly better than just about anything I've seen this year and deserves to win a shitload of awards, but definatly not as good as the Two Towers and the trilogy as a whole is nowhere near as good as the original Star Wars trilogy....

ROTK was the best of the 3.

It's one of the best movie's I've ever seen. If not the best.
I give it a 10.5 out of 10.

So how long is it, anyway? I know it's long, but did anyone actually time it? I'm trying to figure out if we should have dinner before or afterward, because I don't want to have to pick my kids up late and then still come home and deal with bedtime (after they've slept the whole way home).

I don't know if you've read the books but the stuff between the king and his son is in there. unfortunately PJ didn't show why Denethor was so crazy i have a book spoiler coming up so if you don't want to know don't read
he was using one of the ... i can't remember what they're called but it was one of the orb things saruman had.

they'll show the fate of saruman in the DVD i bet it got cut from the movie because PJ had to work it into the movie since he cut out all the main stuff between the climax and the actual ending, since this would come before the passage of time where sam marries rosie and frodo finishes writing.
And the ending isn't PJs fault there's like i dunno... 70 pages between the climax and the actual ending. so he actually cut out alot of the book ending.
thats my rant

Saruman will be in the DVD version. Hopefully Denethor using the Palantir will be as well. I read an interview with Jackson and he said there will be at least 40 minutes cut back in to the movie! Two Towers was even better on DVD and I think ROTK will top that.
Oh, and Return Of The Jedi is top five gayest movies ever.

I got my son a Lord of the Rings Risk game. I can't wait to sit down and play it with him and my niece. It looks harder then the original.

i missed this, but im a moron too, how was twin towers different on dvd than in theatres?
If you get the 4 disc Two Towers, and Fellowship of the Ring, you get about 40 more minutes of LOTR goodness.
I'm waiting for the trilogy box set.......

Those fucking Ewoks are almost as bad as Jar-Jar Binks.
Attack of the Clones was way better than Return of the Jedi and Phantom Penis.

Well, there are Special DVD versions that go along with the theatre versions that are also on DVD. Needless to say, both special editions have many more scenes that greatly enhance the story. A lot of the confusing stuff and holes in the story are filled in.

I thought the first two hours were pure magic. I felt like a kid watching "Empire Strikes Back" or "Wizard of Oz." The battles intense, the landscape breathtaking, the romance real, the drama cutting edge, I thought it may have been the best movie ever. My only gripe was the way it was all wrapped up - very anticlimactic. That and the two comic relief Hobbits as well as the lack of Christopher Lee. I'll stop short of calling this the greatest trilogy ever, simply because it was an "adaptation" we have to remember that Lucas made a total "creation" and that has to count for something.
